In short

In an asynchronous system there is no PC running continuously: the content is downloaded into the controller's memory and played back from there on its own, even if the internet drops out. This is the largest segment of the market: shop entrances, advertising signs, filling stations, pharmacy displays. Content can be swapped from a phone, from a browser or from the cloud, often over 4G, and across dozens of displays at once.

The same outdoor wall by day and by night. Brightness scheduling in asynchronous controllers handles exactly this difference. Illustrative image.
Synchronous — live signal PC / mixer runs continuously sending controller in real time the wall + live camera, mixer, real-time content – if the PC or the mains fails, the wall goes dark Typical: concert, studio, conference, sports hall Asynchronous — stored content phone / cloud only on upload async controller own memory + clock the wall + runs without internet, no PC, less power – no live signal, content is prepared in advance Typical: billboard, shop window, petrol station, pharmacy Which one to choose? If the wall shows a live image — camera, presentation, mixer — only synchronous will do. If a prepared advert loops, asynchronous is cheaper, simpler and more reliable: there is nothing to maintain behind the wall. There is a middle way: many asynchronous controllers also have an HDMI input, for the occasional live signal.
The two modes are not a technical ranking but a difference in use. Most Hungarian installations are asynchronous — there is no point putting a computer behind an advertising sign.
