NovaStar Taurus Ultra TU20 Pro asynchronous LED controller
The TU20 Pro is a playback control processor designed for indoor LED screens, integrating an Android system and the sending card function into a single device, so third-party applications (a browser, custom digital signage software, a video conferencing client) can also be run on it directly, without a separate PC. It can serve up to 3.9 million pixels with scaling, or 2.88 million pixels in pixel-to-pixel mapping.
One of its distinctive features is wireless screen mirroring: it can mirror the screen of a Windows, macOS, iOS or Android device to the LED wall at up to 60 fps, at a range of 8 metres with a latency of no more than 80 ms, which is practical on meeting room and control room installations. It is powered from DC 12V/3A, draws 21 W, has 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage, and operates between -20°C and +50°C.
Where the Taurus Ultra TU20 Pro sits in an LED wall system
On indoor walls it shortens the whole chain: Android operating system, media player and sending card in one device, with six gigabit LED outputs. From there Cat5e/Cat6 runs to the receiving cards (A8s, A8s Pro, CA50E) and HUB75E on to the modules. Content need not be an uploaded file: a browser, a digital signage client or a video conferencing application can also run on the built-in Android, and a live source can be connected on two HDMI inputs. Wireless screen mirroring works from Windows, macOS, iOS and Android devices, within 8 metres and at a latency of no more than 80 ms. On control room, meeting room or office indoor LED walls, where instant wireless screen mirroring and running third-party applications directly both matter.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Because of the more open Android-based system, maintenance (application updates, security settings) calls for IT attention rather than simple content uploading.
The Taurus Ultra TU20 Pro in practice
In a meeting room, commissioning is decided by the network rather than by the LED wall: the device has to be put on the corporate Wi-Fi or a wired connection, and for mirroring the client and the TU20 Pro have to be on the same subnet — on a guest network with client isolation, mirroring will not find it. The 2.4 GHz band gives stuttering mirroring in a busy office; where possible, 5 GHz or a wired connection is the answer. Because it runs Android, maintenance is Android maintenance as well: application updates, permissions, screen lock, autostart configuration — this has to be planned as administrator-level work, not content uploading. On brightness, indoors the realistic starting point is 30–50% rather than the outdoor 100%, or the wall dazzles everyone in the meeting room. If the internet drops, locally stored content and the HDMI source carry on, while the cloud applications and the VNNOX Care reporting fall silent.
Alternatives to the Taurus Ultra TU20 Pro
If Android and mirroring are not needed, only scheduled playback, the TB60 carries a wall of the same order for less. If the complexity of the content is the main consideration (interactive HTML5, live data feeds, several sources), a BrightSign XT4 media player plus a video processor is the more flexible arrangement. On a purely live, PC-driven indoor wall a dedicated synchronous sender (MCTRL4K, VX400) is the right choice, because the built-in Android is then a needless maintenance burden. The deciding factor: whether the wall needs to run applications and mirror screens, or whether downloaded content is enough.
