The scrolling LED sign — also known as an LED ticker or moving message sign — is the most widely used LED advertising device there is: it shows programmable text moving horizontally, plus simple animation, so it keeps attracting attention in a shop window, above the counter, or even along the side of a vehicle. It comes in single-colour, dual-colour and full-colour (RGB) versions, for indoor and outdoor use, from the smallest single-line counter display to a facade band several metres long.

More detail on Scrolling LED sign — technical background, comparison, applications
You change the content from a phone or a computer over Wi-Fi or USB in minutes: no print costs, no technical expertise — if you can write an email, you can run this. A typical shop-window installation is done in a day or two because it needs no complex support structure, yet it is one of the easiest advertising investments to measure, since footfall responds directly to the current message. The outdoor, facade-mounted version is weather-rated and bright enough to stay readable in full sun.
Try it: type in your own text

What is a scrolling LED sign, and who is it for?
A scrolling LED sign is an LED matrix display that shows text, prices, opening hours or the current offer moving horizontally across it. It is aimed above all at retailers, hospitality venues, service businesses and companies with a vehicle fleet — anyone who needs to get a simple, frequently changing message to passers-by or customers at low cost. The sign needs no graphic design and no printing; the text can be refreshed in a couple of clicks at any time, which makes it a particularly good fit for offers, opening hours and prices that change daily or weekly.
Choosing size and colour
The rule of thumb for size is that character height should be roughly 2–3% of the viewing distance: for a shop-window sign read from 5–10 metres, a 10–15 cm character height is comfortably legible, while a facade sign 20–30 metres from a busy road justifies 25–40 cm. On colour, the single-colour version (usually red or amber) is the cheapest and most energy-efficient; dual-colour lets you separate parts of the message (price in red, text in green); and RGB gives complete freedom for logos, graphics and animation at a higher price. A common mistake is to choose RGB unnecessarily for a plain text message, when a dual-colour board would serve the same purpose for less.
What determines the price of a scrolling LED sign?
The price is set by the size of the board (length and height), the colour version (single, dual or RGB), the indoor or outdoor brightness class, and the type of control (Wi-Fi, USB or cloud-based). Separate items are the mounting frame or facade fixing, the power supply and, for outdoor installations at height, the cost of working from a platform lift. We always show these on separate lines in the calculation so you can see exactly what costs what, rather than everything being compressed into one flat price.
How does installation work?
The process is short: it starts with a site visit and survey within a few days, where we look at the mounting surface and the availability of power; manufacturing follows — as little as one to two weeks for a smaller sign — and then fitting. Smaller boards for a window or above a counter can be installed in a single day; larger facade versions may need a platform lift and, in some cases, a permit. At handover we always demonstrate the control software, so you can update the message independently from day one.
How reliable is it, and what if it fails?
Scrolling signs are also built with quality-controlled LED chips from a named manufacturer, matched for brightness and colour within a single batch, so the board will not go patchy years later. Expected life is 80,000–100,000 operating hours, which at 10–12 hours a day in a shop window is 15–20 years. If a fault occurs, we provide service support and spare parts from stock; most problems — a pixel fault or a power supply issue — are solved quickly with an on-site swap, with no waiting weeks for a part from abroad.
How much power does a scrolling LED sign use?
It is one of the lowest-consumption LED advertising devices there is: an average single-colour shop-window board draws around 30–80 W/m², while a full-colour RGB version may need somewhat more, 100–150 W/m² at maximum brightness. Running a typical 1–2 m² window sign for 12 hours a day usually amounts to only a few euros of electricity a month — we will calculate it for your exact size and local tariff on request. Here too, automatic brightness control reduces consumption in the evening, when less output is needed.
Common mistakes and myths
The most frequent mistake is cramming too much text into a single scrolling line — a passer-by cannot read it in the two or three seconds available, so it pays to think in short, pointed messages. It is a myth that programming a scrolling sign is complicated: the supplied app is written for non-technical users, and text, speed and scheduling are set with a few taps. Many also underestimate the importance of outdoor brightness — a lower-output board designed for indoor use becomes almost unreadable in midday sun once mounted outside, so the choice between the indoor and outdoor version is a genuine technical decision, not a detail.
Multi-line versions: the LED information board
The same technology also comes in a multi-line format, often called an LED information board or LED news ticker. Instead of a single scrolling line it displays several rows at once — for example prices on one line, opening hours on the next, and a rolling message on the third — or it can switch between full-screen pages. It suits pharmacies, banks, transport hubs, petrol stations and municipal information points, wherever more than one piece of information has to be visible at the same time. The control software, the brightness classes and the service arrangements are identical to the single-line version; only the matrix height and the layout options change, so both are quoted from the same product family.

Typical applications
Scrolling LED sign — frequently asked questions
How do you program a scrolling LED sign?
You upload the text and the schedule with the supplied software over Wi-Fi or USB; multiple messages, speeds and simple animations can all be set from a phone or a computer.
How much does a scrolling LED sign cost?
It depends on size, colour version (single, dual or RGB) and indoor or outdoor build; size and brightness class are the main cost drivers, and we give an exact price after the survey.
How long does a scrolling LED sign last?
The LED chips are rated for 80,000–100,000 operating hours, which is 15–20 years of shop-window use at 10–12 hours a day.
Is there a warranty, and what happens if it fails?
Yes, we typically provide 2–3 years, extendable with the extended warranty package; if a fault occurs we provide service support and parts held in stock.
Will it cope with rain and frost outdoors?
The outdoor version is built to an IP rating that withstands rain, frost and summer heat, and it runs at a higher brightness so it stays readable in sunlight.
How long does it take to install a shop-window sign?
For a smaller board destined for a window or a counter, manufacturing and installation typically take one to two weeks; a larger facade version can take three to four.
Do I need a permit to put one up?
For facade placement visible from a public space a planning notification is usually required, and we help with that process; inside your own shop window there is generally no such obligation.
