The 16×160 cm size is recommended for anyone finding the 128 cm board too tight for what they have to say – because the company name is longer, for example, or because they want to show a phone number alongside the opening hours. The extra 32 cm of width significantly increases the number of characters that fit on one line, so the text does not have to be crammed or set in a small character size, which would hurt legibility at a distance. Red gives the strongest contrast at this size too, so it remains one of the most sought-after combinations for longer, more informative lettering. The brightness and the resolution are the same as on the smaller boards, so there is no compromise on quality with the larger size.
What lies behind the red: a guaranteed-quality LED chip
The market is full of cheap outdoor boards on which, after six months to a year, the red fades towards pink or lights unevenly. That is almost always a sign that the manufacturer assembled the modules from mixed production batches, with no quality control. We, by contrast, fit quality-controlled SMD LED chips from a single batch into every panel, so the shade of red stays even across the full 160 cm width of the board for years. If a problem does arise with a module, the repair does not mean replacing the whole board but quickly removing and replacing the affected element, from regional stock.
Handling longer messages
The board runs from a 220 V supply, and its aluminium housing is designed for the stable outdoor mounting of the larger panel; with the whole display lit its consumption is typically 70–90 W. In the Wi-Fi phone app you can easily enter longer text and then set it to run continuously from left to right, or to alternate in stages between two or three different messages – first the company name, then the offer, then the contact details, say. With the scheduling function you can also set when the board switches on and off automatically, saving energy as well. We demonstrate the app in person at handover, so you do not have to experiment with it alone.
