In short

These programs do not play content, they set the system up: they detect the receiving card, load the cabinet configuration file, set the scan mode, the brightness, the gamma and the refresh rate, and carry out calibration and firmware updates. If one of them is missing, or does not match the hardware version, the wall simply cannot be operated - which is why it is worth clarifying at the point of purchase which software is needed, and whether the configuration file comes with it.

There is not one program but three layers — and a different tool for each 1. Layer 1, though, is free to choose.
The commonest misunderstanding is that a single program handles everything. If you are looking for a way to change the content, you need layer 1; if the wall “will not line up”, layer 2; if the cabinets differ in colour, layer 3.
