In short

NovaStar's core software for commissioning, testing and maintaining synchronous (live video) LED walls.

NovaLCT (for synchronous control systems) LED wall software

NovaLCT is the free, official configuration program for NovaStar's sending and receiving cards. It is used to set the display's tiling layout (how many cabinets, in what order), the pixel density, the brightness and the gamma, and it also runs serial-number-based monitoring and fault-finding (dead pixels, power supply monitoring). The synchronous version is for systems where the wall continuously receives a live video signal from an external source (camera, mixer, media player), as opposed to the asynchronous (multimedia player) version, which plays back independently from stored content.

The program runs under Windows, and on practically every NovaStar-based installation it is the first tool the installing technician opens on site. Its calibration module (partly working together with NovaCLB) also makes it possible to even out brightness and colour differences between cabinets.

Where the NovaLCT (for synchronous control systems) sits in the signal chain. Every stage of the diagram is clickable — it takes you to that category.

Where the NovaLCT sits in an LED wall system

NovaLCT does not sit in the path of the video signal: the installer's laptop connects to the sending card (MCTRL300, MCTRL660 Pro, VX or K series) over a USB cable or Ethernet, while the picture signal arrives independently on the sender's HDMI/DVI/SDI input. The configuration data, however, travels on the same Cat6 data cable that carries the picture data, all the way to the receiving cards sitting in the cabinets (MRV, A series). Over this channel the program writes the cabinet file (.rcfgx, or .rcfg on older cards) to the receiving cards, and over the same channel it reads back the temperature, voltage and cable fault indications.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

For every NovaStar-controlled LED wall that receives a live, continuous video signal (event technology, studio, outdoor display with a real-time source) — this is the primary commissioning and maintenance tool.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

The NovaLCT version always has to be matched to the installed firmware — too new a NovaLCT sometimes fails to recognise older receiving card firmware, and too old a version may show missing functions. It is worth always using the version recommended for the given project from the manufacturer's download page, not necessarily the newest one.

The NovaLCT in practice

The on-site order is fixed: install the USB driver, get the sending card recognised, Screen Configuration, on the Receiving Card tab load the .rcfgx supplied by the manufacturer and Send to Receiving Card, then Save to receiving card — that is, commit it. After that comes the cabinet matrix and the cabling direction per port on the Screen Connection tab, then brightness and gamma, and finally Save System Configuration File. The most common mistake is skipping the commit: the wall looks right after the settings, but the first power cut wipes them. The second classic is that the serpentine cable route in Screen Connection does not match the real one, in which case the picture is scrambled cabinet by cabinet. The advanced menus open under User > Advanced Synchronous System User Login, with the admin password. There is no Hungarian interface; the menus appear in English or Chinese.

Alternatives to the NovaLCT

If the wall is irregularly shaped or made up of many sending cards, the graphical SmartLCT is quicker; on a COEX processor (MX/KU) system, however, NovaLCT is not the right software at all — VMP is. For camera-based brightness and colour matching, NovaCLB joins it. It cannot be used on another manufacturer's hardware: a Colorlight card needs LEDSETTING or iSet, a Linsn card LEDStudio or LEDSet, a Huidu card HDSet. The deciding factor is always the brand of the fitted receiving card, not the manufacturer of the module.

On its own the NovaLCT (for synchronous control systems) is a component. With us it works inside these displays — design, manufacturing and installation included.
