In short

NovaStar's browser-based cloud platform for remotely supervising, managing content on and maintaining LED displays across many sites.

NovaStar · cloud-based control and content management platform

VNNOX (cloud-based control platform) LED wall software

VNNOX manages NovaStar Taurus-series (and other registrable) devices through a web interface: content upload and scheduling, user permissions, work groups, alerts and logging. It has two main service levels: VNNOX Standard (included free when a Taurus player is registered) and VNNOX Care (extended operating/monitoring functions).

Its advantage over the local software (ViPlex Express/Handy) is that it requires no physical access to the device or to the local network — several hundred displays can be supervised from one account, from anywhere, which is practical on distributed installations (a retail chain or an advertising network, for instance).

Where the VNNOX sits in an LED wall system

VNNOX stands at the top level of the signal path, at the content source: the media uploaded from the browser reaches the registered Taurus terminals through the cloud; those terminals log in to the server over an internet connection (wired, Wi-Fi or mobile network), download the programme to their internal storage, and from there drive the receiving cards hanging off the Cat6. The device is registered on the terminal itself or from ViPlex, by serial number. VNNOX does not replace the physical configuration of the panel: the cabinet file and the calibration remain NovaLCT's job.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

On NovaStar systems distributed across several sites and many displays, where content and status monitoring call for central, web-based supervision rather than local software.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

Depending on the region, a different regional VNNOX server has to be used (us.vnnox.com, en.vnnox.com and so on) — before registering an account it is worth settling which server is relevant to the project's geographical location.

The VNNOX in practice

The rollout order: an account on the server matching the region, registering the terminals, allocating work groups and permissions, uploading the media library, and finally publishing a playlist and a schedule. Because the terminals call the cloud themselves, outbound traffic has to be permitted on the site firewall — on a closed corporate network this is the most common obstacle, and it does not show up in the software, only in the device staying offline. Downloading content to the terminal takes time, so a programme change is best published hours before it is due to appear, not minutes. Extended status monitoring (temperature, supply voltage, screen snapshot) comes with the Care level; Standard gives less. There is no Hungarian interface.

Alternatives to the VNNOX

For a display at a single site managed from a laptop, ViPlex Express is enough and needs no internet connection. If the project has players from mixed manufacturers, VNNOX is not a good choice, because it only handles NovaStar devices — there the hardware-independent Xibo, Yodeck, OptiSigns or NoviSign is the viable route. If the data has to stay on your own server (a public institution, a closed internal network), self-hosted Xibo is the only alternative that is fully featured without a cloud.

The player is only embedded on click — until then not a single request goes to YouTube.

LED wall software — but what does it go into?

On its own the VNNOX (cloud-based control platform) is a component. With us it works inside these displays — design, manufacturing and installation included.
