NovaStar Taurus TB60 asynchronous LED controller

The TB60 is the highest-capacity member of the Taurus series: it can serve up to 2,300,000 pixels and supports synchronous (live, PC-driven) playback just as well as asynchronous (standalone, downloaded content) playback. Switching between the two can be done as the user requires, which makes it flexible on mixed-use installations (standalone advertising playback by day, live PC control for an evening event).

The unit can be supervised and updated remotely through NovaStar's cloud platforms (VNNOX), so one operator can manage displays across several sites centrally. Its typical field of use is the larger shopfront, the shopping centre façade, and smart city projects where the capacity of the TB30/TB40 is no longer enough.

Where the Taurus TB60 sits in an LED wall system

The highest-output member of the series: it has five gigabit LED ports, and since one port carries roughly 650,000 pixels at 60 Hz with an 8-bit source, the 2,300,000 pixel load capacity means about four ports in use — typically 8–16 receiving cards. The port allocation (which cabinet on which port, and in what order) has to be drawn on NovaLCT's `Screen Connection` tab, while content comes from the 32 GB of internal storage, from a ViPlex Express/Handy upload or from the VNNOX cloud. Thanks to its HDMI in and out, a live source can also be connected in synchronous mode, so the same hardware is a standalone advertising player by day and a live-controlled wall in the evening.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

For larger, high-resolution commercial LED walls where both standalone and live PC control may be needed over the project's life cycle.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

Because of the greater load capacity, plan the network bandwidth and the power supply from the figures in the manufacturer's datasheet rather than estimating from the smaller Taurus models.

The Taurus TB60 in practice

Commissioning starts with the AP-mode Wi-Fi connection, a password change, time zone and NTP setup, and finally the brightness schedule. At this size the port distribution is the critical point: if a port is loaded beyond its nominal pixel limit, the picture does not stop with an error message but flickers or drops out in bands — at which point the cabinets have to be redistributed between the ports. Because of the larger wall, the power supply and the network cabling also have to be sized to the manufacturer's datasheet rather than estimated from experience with the smaller Taurus models. The 4G/5G module is not standard equipment here either. If the internet drops, the downloaded playlist runs undisturbed and only the VNNOX status reporting and content updates are missing — which is precisely the point of asynchronous operation. When a device is replaced, the playlist, the schedules and the network settings are lost, while the calibration burned onto the receiving cards remains.

Alternatives to the Taurus TB60

If the wall fits within 1,300,000 pixels, the TB50 or the TB40 is considerably cheaper. In a built-in, housing-free format the T60 gives the same 2,300,000 pixels. In other ecosystems the Huidu HD-A7 is its counterpart (5,160,000 px) if more headroom is needed. If the wall is larger still, or the aim is switching between several live sources, camera signals or LED processor image processing, the answer is not an asynchronous player but a synchronous system: a VX1000 or MX40 Pro sender with a separate media player alongside. The deciding factors are the pixel count, the real-time source and the internet available on site.
