NovaStar Taurus TB30 asynchronous LED controller
The TB30 is the entry-level member of NovaStar's third-generation Taurus series, combining playback and the sending card function in a single box. It can serve an LED wall up to a load capacity of 650,000 pixels, with 4K hardware decoding, two Ethernet ports and Wi-Fi. Content can be uploaded from a PC, a phone or a tablet, and the display can be supervised and updated from anywhere through NovaStar's cloud-based VNNOX platform.
It is typically used on smaller commercial displays (shopfronts, column displays, lamp-post advertising, in-store shelf information), where the scale of the investment does not justify a more expensive controller of greater capacity. It uses the same software environment (ViPlex Express, VNNOX) as the other Taurus models (TB40, TB50, TB60), so an installation company can build a uniform device park for projects of differing sizes.
Where the Taurus TB30 sits in an LED wall system
It occupies the head and the middle of the signal path at once: its content source is its own 32 GB of internal storage, and the player and the sending card are in the same box. From there the LED output runs over Cat5e/Cat6 to the receiving cards (A5s Plus, DH7512-S, MRV412-N) and on over HUB75/HUB75E ribbon cable to the modules. One gigabit LED port carries roughly 650,000 pixels at 60 Hz with an 8-bit source, so the TB30's entire capacity amounts to one port: typically 2–6 receiving cards hang off it. Content is loaded with ViPlex Express (PC) or ViPlex Handy (mobile), and remotely from the VNNOX cloud; the wall's physical layout (scan mode, HUB order), however, is set up in NovaLCT.
WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
For smaller commercial asynchronous displays (shopfronts, column advertising, in-store information boards), where a load capacity of 650,000 pixels is enough and a compact, inexpensive solution matters.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
The load capacity is far lower than that of the larger Taurus siblings (the TB40 and above), so it is no longer enough for larger, high-resolution walls; the TB40/TB50 is the realistic choice then.
The Taurus TB30 in practice
At commissioning the box opens its own Wi-Fi access point, the installer connects to it with a phone, and ViPlex Handy lists the device immediately; the factory AP password (12345678) has to be changed before going live, because on an outdoor display this is the most commonly skipped step. Next come the time zone and NTP synchronisation: without these the timed playlist and the brightness schedule drift within days. Brightness can be controlled by a manual percentage, by a time-of-day profile or by a light sensor — outdoors, typically 15–25% at night instead of the daytime 100%, or complaints from residents follow. Content has to be rendered in advance to the wall's exact pixel dimensions, because there is no automatic scaling in asynchronous mode. If the internet drops, the downloaded playlist carries on undisturbed; only new material and the VNNOX status reporting stop. When a device is replaced, the playlist in internal storage and the network settings are lost, but the calibration stored on the receiving cards is not.
Alternatives to the Taurus TB30
If the wall exceeds 650,000 pixels, the TB40 (1,300,000 px) is the next step up, and the TB60 (2,300,000 px) for a larger commercial surface. For building into your own enclosure or custom electronics, the housing-free T60. In the cheaper direction the Huidu HD-A3L or the HD-C16L is its counterpart — with the C16L not even a separate receiving card is needed, since its 12 HUB75E ports drive the modules directly. For a live camera feed, an event or a real-time PC picture, however, a synchronous chain is needed instead of an asynchronous one (a VX400/VX600 sender plus a continuously running source). The decision turns on two questions: how many pixels the wall has, and whether a real-time signal is needed.
