Huidu HD-VP2430 asynchronous LED controller

The HD-VP2430 is a video processor with 24 gigabit Ethernet output ports, supporting a load capacity of up to 15.72 million pixels and a maximum width of 16,384 pixels. Its inputs include DP 1.2, two HDMI 2.0 and two HDMI 1.3 connectors, and it also has 3 10G optical fibre interfaces for long-distance signal transmission.

The unit handles 3 simultaneous windows and 16 stored scenes, with seamless ('zero delay') switching between input sources, and supports USB-B, Wi-Fi and RS232 control. Although it is not a player in itself (it holds no stored content), it is used on professional multi-source control room and event installations, fitted between asynchronous media players (BrightSign, a PC-based player) and the LED wall's sending cards.

Where the HD-VP2430 sits in an LED wall system

Not a player but a scaling and distribution unit standing in the middle of the chain: source (PC, BrightSign XT4 or another media player) → HDMI/DP → VP2430 → 24 gigabit Ethernet outputs or 3 10G optical fibres → receiving cards → HUB → module. With 24 gigabit ports, the 15,720,000 pixel load capacity is divided at roughly 650,000 pixels per port, which can mean several hundred receiving cards. The optical fibre output is there for long distances (hundreds of metres between the control room and the wall), where the 100-metre limit of copper Cat6 is no longer enough. It stores no content: if the source goes, the wall goes black immediately.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

On high-resolution professional LED wall systems handling several video sources (control rooms, event work), where a scaling/switching unit is needed between a separate media player (a BrightSign, for instance) and the LED wall's sending cards.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

It is not a media player in itself: it stores no content, only processes the input signals and distributes them to the sending cards.

The HD-VP2430 in practice

The focus of commissioning is planning the scenes and the port allocation: the unit handles 16 stored scenes and 3 simultaneous windows, and switching between sources is seamless, but only if the scenes are set up in advance — this cannot comfortably be done on site during a live event. On the input side the HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 1.3 ports carry different maximum resolutions, so the 4K source has to go on the 2.0 input. In a system this size the cabling is the real risk: the port order and the cabinet map have to be documented, because tracking down one swapped port after the fact costs days. There is also Wi-Fi AP mode and RS232 control, the latter connectable to building automation or an AV control desk. It is not suitable for asynchronous operation: standalone playback without internet has to come from the media player wired alongside it.

Alternatives to the HD-VP2430

On a smaller wall with a few ports, the HD-A7 all-in-one controller is cheaper and simpler, because it includes a player. In other ecosystems the NovaStar VX400/VX600 (4 and 6 gigabit ports respectively) is the entry-level counterpart, with the VX1000 as the big brother. If the job is not scaling several sources but standalone scheduled content playback, an asynchronous box is needed instead of a video processor (HD-A6L, Taurus TB60), because the VP2430 always needs a separate media source alongside it. The deciding factors: how many live sources there are, how large the wall is, and how far away the control room is.
