Huidu HD-A7 asynchronous LED controller
The HD-A7 belongs to Huidu's "4K super controller" category, with a load capacity of up to 5,160,000 pixels in asynchronous mode and 5,200,000 pixels in synchronous mode, 32 GB of memory and a 1000 Mbps gigabit LAN. Its connectors include 4 HDMI outputs, an HDMI input, DisplayPort and 3 USB ports, while the Wi-Fi works in both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, in AP and station modes alike.
This category (together with the larger HD-A8) was built primarily for high-resolution advertising boards, shopping centre façades and stadium displays, where the capacity of the smaller A-series models is no longer enough. With an optional 4G/5G module, cloud-based remote supervision can also be set up.
Where the HD-A7 sits in an LED wall system
With eight gigabit LED outputs this is already the controller for a large wall: the 5,160,000 pixel asynchronous load capacity is divided at around 650,000 pixels per port, typically across 20–40 receiving cards. On the input side there are six HDMI connectors and one DisplayPort, so several live sources can be chosen between in synchronous mode; in asynchronous mode the 32 GB of internal storage is the source. Cat5e/Cat6 runs to the receiving cards, and HUB75E on to the modules. Software: HDPlayer for content, HDSet for the wall layout, XiaoHui Cloud for remote supervision; thanks to its RS232 serial control it can also be wired into building automation or an AV control system.
WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
On high-resolution, commercial-scale LED walls where the capacity of the HD-A4L/A6L is no longer enough but the largest HD-A8 is not required either.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
The higher load capacity comes with a greater current draw and more heat output, so adequate ventilation has to be provided in the enclosure.
The HD-A7 in practice
Because of its AC 100–240 V supply and 72 W consumption, this is no longer a card hidden behind the module but a rack-mounted device: ventilation has to be taken seriously at installation, because in a sealed box with no cooling the heat build-up causes an unstable picture and random restarts. Commissioning starts with the AP-mode Wi-Fi connection (the card works in both AP and station modes), then the time zone, the brightness schedule and the port allocation. On a wall this size, getting the port distribution wrong is the most common mistake: on an overloaded output the picture flickers or drops out in bands. Content has to be rendered in advance to the wall's exact resolution, because there is no scaling in asynchronous mode. If the internet drops, the downloaded programme carries on and only cloud updates stop — that is the point of asynchronous operation, and on an advertising surface this size it is a serious commercial argument.
Alternatives to the HD-A7
If the wall fits within 2,600,000 pixels, the HD-A6L is considerably cheaper and draws less power. In other ecosystems the NovaStar Taurus TB60 (2,300,000 px) is its closest counterpart, and above that the synchronous NovaStar VX1000 or MX40 Pro is the realistic direction. If the job is not playback but scaling and seamlessly switching several live sources, the HD-VP2430 video processor is the right device, with a separate media player alongside (a BrightSign XT4, for instance). The deciding factors: the pixel count, the number of live sources, and whether standalone operation without internet is required.
