Listen LS-T16 asynchronous LED controller
The T16 belongs to Listen's T series, for driving single-colour and dual-colour LED signs: it supports LAN and WAN communication (cluster control), and parameters can also be read back from a USB drive, allowing offline operation without a PC. The card handles 128 programmes, each with 16 content zones, and supports digital and analogue clocks, countdowns and a temperature sensor.
The software side is provided by the manufacturer's LED Player 6.0 application, and the card operates over a wide supply voltage range of 3.5-6V and an operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C. It is used primarily on smaller, simpler outdoor signs (shops, offices, smaller hoardings) where full-colour video playback is not a consideration.
Where the LS-T16 sits in an LED wall system
The simplest signal path: the card works straight onto the modules' ribbon cables, with no sending card, no receiving card and no Cat5e in the chain. The source is the 2 MB of internal memory, into which the programme can be loaded from the manufacturer's LED Player 6.0 software, over Ethernet (LAN or WAN) or from a USB drive; the parameters can also be read back from USB, which allows offline servicing without a PC. Up to 128 programmes can be stored, each with 16 content zones, and the card can display a digital or analogue clock, a countdown and temperature sensor data. It is not suitable for full-colour video: it is a controller for single- and dual-colour displays.
WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
On simple single- or dual-colour text and animated signs, where full-colour video is not needed but LAN/WAN-based cluster control matters.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
It is not a full-colour controller: it cannot display image or video content, only text, animation and clock-type content.
The LS-T16 in practice
The LAN/WAN capability is the real difference here: the card is reachable not only from the local network but over the internet, as a cluster, so the boards of several sites can be updated from one central point — this needs a fixed IP address or port forwarding on the local router, and has to be agreed with the client's IT staff at installation. The 3.5–6 V power input is wide, but here too the voltage drop on a long, thin power lead causes random restarts; wired to the 5 V rail shared with the modules, this is the most common fault. The -40 to +85 °C range applies to the card, not to the other parts of the display. It needs no internet to work: the programme is on the card and runs without a network. On replacement all 128 programmes are lost, so the LED Player project file has to be kept.
Alternatives to the LS-T16
If images or video are also needed on the board, this card is not suitable — a full-colour controller is required instead: an Onbon BX-6Q2 for a lintel board, a Huidu HD-C16L or HD-A3L for a larger, video-capable surface. If, on the other hand, single- or dual-colour text is enough and the shopkeeper would rather operate it from a phone, the Huidu HD-WF2 is more convenient with its built-in Wi-Fi and the LedArt mobile app, only without WAN cluster management. The deciding factors: whether remote, multi-site central management is needed, and whether text content is enough.
