Leyard TWA Series LED module and cabinet
The Leyard TWA Series is a fine-pitch LED video wall family available in 0.9, 1.2 and 1.8 mm pixel pitches. Unlike the usual, much smaller cabinets, the TWA uses a cabinet with a 54-inch diagonal, a 16:9 aspect ratio and a flat panel design, which means that a larger surface is already aligned and set at the factory, so fewer cabinets have to be aligned to one another during installation and fewer seams have to be perfected.
The LED modules are replaceable on the front of the cabinet, while the power supplies and other internal electronics sit behind an easily removable rear cover — the service route is therefore partly from the front (module replacement) and partly from the rear (power supply, electronics). The manufacturer offers 20-point alignment and Windows-based software for fine-tuning.
According to the manufacturer, the TWA Series achieves up to 35% lower energy use than industry low-consumption video walls.
Where the TWA Series sits in an LED wall system
On the TWA the assembly unit is a 54-inch, 1 200×675 mm cabinet: with factory-aligned modules, a power supply and receiving card behind the rear cover, mounted on a wall bracket or a stand. The large cabinet also drives the port requirement up: the P1.88 version is 640×360 = 230 400 pixels, so two cabinets run on one gigabit port; the P0.94 version, however, is 1 280×720 = 921 600 pixels, which will not fit on a single gigabit port — that needs two ports per cabinet. A 3×2 P0.94 wall therefore requires 12 ports.
WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
Worth choosing on large, permanently installed video walls, where the larger, factory-aligned cabinets reduce installation time and the number of visible seams.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Reaching the internal electronics requires removing the rear cover, so before installation it is worth settling whether there will be enough room behind or beside the wall for servicing.
The TWA Series in practice
The advantage of the large factory-aligned cabinet is installation time: on a 4.9 m² wall in a 3×2 layout there are seven internal seam lines, whereas with 500 mm cabinets the same wall has a dozen. In exchange, one cabinet is 30 kg, lifting calls for two people or a hoist, and in the event of damage a larger unit drops out. The service route is split: the modules are replaceable from the front, but the rear cover has to be removed to reach the power supply and the electronics — this has to be taken into account in the space required behind the wall, as without 50–60 cm of free space the power supply cannot be replaced. The 20-point alignment can be fine-tuned in Windows software; the modules' calibration data stays on the receiving card. Spares: 2–3% modules, plus one complete spare cabinet.
Alternatives to the TWA Series
If there is no service corridor behind the wall, the TWA is not a good choice — the Leyard DirectLight (full front service, power supplies moved into a rack) belongs there instead. For a COB surface, the LianTronics VMQ or the Unilumin UMiniIII Pro; for a pixel pitch below 1 mm, the Absen KLCOB V2. With a smaller cabinet and easier handling, the Unilumin UpanelS or the ROE Visual Ruby is the option. For events and moving around, the 30 kg cabinet is not suitable.
