Absen Polaris V2 Series (PL V2) LED module and cabinet

The official product name is PL V2 Series, and according to the manufacturer's own text it also runs on the market as the Absen Polaris V2 Series. The platform thinks in a 500 mm panel grid, which simplifies picture size planning, and offers a pixel pitch range from 1.9 mm to 4.8 mm: 1.9/2.5/2.9/3.9 mm indoors, and 2.9/3.9/4.8 mm outdoors. The panel sizes are 500×500 mm and 500×1000 mm.

The series works with HDR support, 16-bit grayscale and a 7 680 Hz refresh rate, which reduces line flicker in camera and live broadcast use (concerts, live streams). The cabinets can be curved between -7.5° and +10°, are rigged with magnetic side locks and an automatic release system, and offer full front and rear servicing.

On the versions with a pixel pitch of 2.5 mm and finer, every panel corner has automatic edge protection, which reduces the number of pixel injuries during transport and installation.

Where the Polaris V2 Series sits in an LED wall system

On the PL V2 the cabinet is the assembly unit: modules, power supply, receiving card and hub board in one frame, openable from the front and from the rear. Pixel density decides the number of ports: the 500×500 cabinet of the P1.9 version is 256×256 = 65 536 pixels, so only about 10 cabinets (2.5 m²) fit on one gigabit port, and five of the 500×1000; at P3.9 it is already 39 and 19. A 20 m² P1.9 wall therefore eats eight ports — which calls for VX600 or MX40 Pro level on the sending side; a two-port sending card is not enough for that.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

For outdoor and indoor LED walls at tours, festivals and events involving live broadcast, where built-in curving and quick, one-person rigging matter.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

No specific weight figure (kg apiece) for the cabinets appeared on the official page, so this field has been left blank.

The Polaris V2 Series in practice

At commissioning, the physical order of the cabinets and the port allocation have to be reconciled with the wall's real layout on NovaLCT's `Screen Configuration` tab; a cabinet dragged in the wrong way round or a shifted port is the most common mistake, because the picture appears to be there and only one strip jumps out of place. The corner protection on the versions finer than 2.5 mm protects during transport, but even so the module surface must not be touched: breaking off the LEDs sitting on the edge is the most common damage. When setting the plane, 0.3 mm is a realistic tolerance at this pixel pitch. Module replacement is done from the front with a magnetic lifter, in under a minute; the calibration data stays on the receiving card, so a replaced module has to be re-measured. Spares of 2–5% modules and a few power supplies are justified.

Alternatives to the Polaris V2 Series

If more brightness is needed for an outdoor stage, the PL V3 goes to 5 000 nit, whereas the outdoor version of the PL V2 stops at 3.9/4.8 mm. For sub-1 mm the Absen KLCOB V2, and for a fixed indoor studio wall the ROE Visual Ruby or the Unilumin UpanelS is the better choice, because those were not made for rental loads. For rental, the INFiLED DBmk2 and the Unilumin Upad IV are a similar category; the decision usually comes down to whether they can be mixed with the existing cabinet fleet.
