ROE Visual Black Pearl BP2V2 LED module and cabinet
ROE Visual mainly makes event technology (rental) LED cabinets, which differ substantially from fixed-installation panels. Rental cabinets are characterised by quick connectors, light weight and an enclosed, impact-resistant build, because they are frequently dismantled, reassembled and transported from event to event, so fast build-up/tear-down and portability are the primary considerations. Fixed-installation cabinets, by contrast, are rigged once at a given location, where durability and long-term, uninterrupted operation matter more than frequent moving.
The Black Pearl BP2V2 is one of the film- and virtual-production- (xR) focused models in the rental category: it has a 2.84 mm pixel pitch, 176×176 resolution and a 7680 Hz refresh rate, which makes it suitable for use in front of a camera. The cabinet is made of magnesium alloy, with magnetic alignment for quick, accurate assembly, and every panel stores its own calibration and operating parameters.
The panel is front-serviceable, with 1500 nit calibrated brightness and 16-bit grayscale handling.
Where the Black Pearl BP2V2 sits in an LED wall system
The BP2V2's cabinet assembles with magnetic alignment and quick locks, and contains the modules, the power supply and the receiving card; servicing is from the front, so no service route is needed behind the wall — in an xR studio, where the LED wall is part of the set, this is a basic requirement. One cabinet is 176×176 = 30 976 pixels, so 21 cabinets, that is 5.2 m², run on one gigabit port. A 50 m² xR backdrop is 200 cabinets and 10 ports — but for use in front of a camera it is the processor rather than the port count that decides: Brompton Tessera S8/SX40 or Megapixel HELIOS, because alongside the 7 680 Hz, ShutterSync and genlock are also needed.
WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
A good choice when looking for a camera-friendly, quickly rigged indoor panel for a film/xR production or for a frequently moved event technology LED wall.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Because of its IP40 rating it is not suitable for sustained outdoor or wet environment use, and the high refresh rate requires a suitable video wall processor.
The Black Pearl BP2V2 in practice
In front of a camera, setting up the wall does not end with the picture: synchronisation has to be established between the camera shutter and the panel's PWM cycle, otherwise bands run across the recording — this is why Brompton ShutterSync or HELIOS NanoSync is needed, and why the processor has to be genlocked to the studio reference. During installation the magnetic alignment pulls the panels together, but the plane comes from the frame: above 0.3 mm the seam shows on camera. Module replacement is from the front with a magnetic lifter, one minute; every panel stores its own calibration and operating parameters, so after a cabinet swap the wall does not have to be re-measured — after a module swap it does. Touring kit: 5% spare modules. Because of IP40 it cannot be used outdoors in the rain.
Alternatives to the Black Pearl BP2V2
Need a finer pixel pitch for a close camera position? The ROE Visual Ruby starts at 1.25 mm, with the same 500 mm grid, optimised for fixed installation. If the wall goes onto an outdoor stage, the outdoor cabinet version of the INFiLED ER or the Gloshine CB MAX is the option. For a curved backdrop, the INFiLED Xmk2's ±30° curving offers more. On a tighter budget, the INFiLED DBmk2 and the Esdlumen Pilot Pro cover a similar pitch range, but per-panel calibration storage and Brompton compatibility have to be clarified separately there.
