In short

The cabinet LED video wall is the most flexible and most universal LED wall solution: built from die-cast aluminium cabinets that lock together in 500×500 or 500×1000 mm units, it can be assembled to virtually any size and aspect ratio. It suits both fixed installations on a facade or wall and rental builds that go up and come down quickly, which is why event producers and companies looking for a permanent installation both choose it.

More detail on Cabinet LED video wall — technical background, comparison, applications

The cabinets align to within a few tenths of a millimetre, giving a seamless, continuous surface rather than a row of separate rectangles. The range runs from a fine indoor 1.2–2.5 mm pixel pitch to a rugged outdoor 3–10 mm build with IP65 protection, so the same core technology serves the shop interior and the building facade alike. A typical 20–30 m² cabinet wall takes three to six months from site survey to handover, and thanks to the modular build it can be extended or repaired years later without replacing the whole system.

What is a cabinet LED video wall, and who is it for?

A cabinet LED video wall is made up of LED modules mounted in self-contained die-cast aluminium frames, which are locked together into a continuous display surface of any size. The solution is ideal for anyone who needs a large, long-running surface that may need extending later: retail groups, event producers, sports venues, and investors in hospitality and entertainment. The advantage of the cabinet structure is that maintenance or a fault means replacing only the affected cabinet or module, not the whole wall, which makes running costs predictable for years. It is the best choice wherever the size, position or loading of the wall calls for bespoke engineering.

How to choose the right pixel pitch and size

The rule of thumb for pixel pitch follows viewing distance: each millimetre of pitch corresponds to roughly 2.5–3 metres of comfortable minimum viewing distance, and as a quick guide you can add about one metre per millimetre of pitch to the closest enjoyable distance. For a shopper looking at a mall window from 3–4 metres a 2.5–3 mm pitch is enough, while a facade wall seen from 15–20 metres stays perfectly sharp at a 6–10 mm outdoor pitch — and costs considerably less. A common mistake is choosing an unnecessarily fine pitch for a wall viewed from a distance; that only raises the cost without meaningfully improving the picture. We always match the size to the available surface and to the cabinets' modular grid, so no awkward cut-off strip is left at the edge of the wall.

What determines the price of a cabinet LED video wall?

The price is driven mainly by pixel pitch (the finer, the more expensive because of module density), the total surface area, the brightness class (indoor or high-output outdoor) and the ingress protection level (IP54 versus IP65). On top of that come separate items for the support structure and fixing (facade bracket, free-standing frame, suspension), the controller and signal processing cards, installation labour, and optional extras such as redundant power supply or remote monitoring. Importantly, these items always appear on separate lines in our calculation — there is no single vague price per square metre with everything mixed into it, so you can see exactly why the total is what it is.

How installation works, from survey to handover

The process always begins with a free site survey, where we examine the mounting surface, its load capacity, the availability of power and an internet connection, and — outdoors — the wind loading. Design and manufacture follow, taking anywhere from a few weeks to two or three months depending on the size of the wall, and then on-site installation, carried out by our trained team from erecting the support structure through cabling to calibration. As part of handover we test the system in live operation and train the operator on the control software — that training is always included in the price, never a separate item.

How reliable is it, and what if something fails?

The cabinets are built with quality-controlled LED chips from a named manufacturer, colour-matched across a single production batch — which means the wall will not go patchy or shift in shade years later. Expected chip life is 80,000–100,000 operating hours, so at 12 hours a day it takes 18–20 years before brightness would fall below half its initial level. If a fault does occur, the modular build means a panel can be swapped in minutes, and we supply spares from our own stock, so there is no waiting weeks for a delivery from abroad.

How much power does a cabinet LED video wall use?

Actual consumption depends on how bright and how colourful the content is: with average, mixed content it typically runs at 150–250 W/m², while a full-white image at maximum brightness can peak at 500–600 W/m². The monthly running cost of a 20 m² outdoor wall can therefore be calculated precisely from your local electricity price and daily operating hours — we always show this with a concrete example during the survey, rather than as an abstract estimate. Automatic brightness control, which matches the display to ambient light, significantly reduces consumption at night and in overcast weather compared with the daytime peak.

Do you need a permit to install a cabinet LED video wall?

For walls mounted on a facade and visible from a public space, a planning or advertising-structure notification is usually required, and the exact procedure differs from country to country and from one local authority to the next. We review this during the survey and, where necessary, help assemble the documentation for the application (dimensions, position, technical description), so the buyer does not have to work through the legal detail. For indoor placement inside your own property there is usually no separate permit obligation, but we check that case by case as well.

Cabinet LED video wall — frequently asked questions

Can I order any size?

Yes, the cabinets can be laid out in any number of columns and rows; our configurator instantly calculates resolution, power draw and price for the size you enter.

What warranty applies to a cabinet LED video wall?

Modules and control electronics typically carry a 2–3 year warranty, which you can extend to 5 years with the extended warranty package, with spares supplied from stock.

Can the cabinet LED video wall be hired, or only bought?

Both are available: as a quick-rig, quick-strike rental version for events, and as a fixed, long-term installation for purchase.

Who carries out the site survey, and what does it cost?

Our own team carries it out, entirely free of charge; that is when we assess the mounting surface, the power supply and the wind loading.

How long does a 20–30 m² wall take to complete?

From design through manufacturing to handover typically takes 6–12 weeks, depending on the size of the wall and the pixel pitch required.

Can the wall be extended later if a larger surface is needed?

Yes — the modular cabinet build allows extension afterwards, provided we work with the same or a compatible module type.

Can the wall be installed and serviced from the front?

With most cabinet versions, yes. Front serviceability is one of the most important considerations, and we always take it into account at the survey.
