NovaStar MX40 Pro LED wall controller
The MX40 Pro is the top model of NovaStar's COEX series: a single unit combining video processing with LED control, with HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2 and 12G-SDI inputs. According to the official manual there are 20 Ethernet output ports and 4 10G optical ports available, which makes it suitable for serving large, complex LED wall systems from a single device.
The device was built primarily for high-volume professional installations (stadiums, large event venues, broadcast studios), where the variety of video sources and the high port count matter equally.
Where the MX40 Pro sits in an LED wall system
It is part of the COEX series, so the software that goes with it is not NovaLCT but VMP (Vision Management Platform) — the most important design consequence. Alongside twenty gigabit outputs there are four 10G optical ports, where OPT1 carries the data of ports 1–10 and OPT2 that of ports 11–20, so half the machine can be carried over a single fibre pair. It has two operating modes: All-In-One Controller with layer handling, and Send-Only Controller. On the receiving side, the Armor series; for 10-bit and HDR specifically, the A10s Pro is required.

On large professional LED wall installations where many kinds of video source and a high port count have to be served from one controller.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
In price and complexity it sits in the upper class; on smaller projects it may be over-specified.
The MX40 Pro in practice
Port load is not given by a fixed number but by a formula: at 8-bit, load × 24 × refresh rate < 0.95 Gbit/s. That works out at 659,722 pixels per port at 60 Hz, only 329,861 at 120 Hz, 494,792 at 10-bit (exclusively with an A10s Pro receiving card) and 329,861 at 12-bit. In other words, doubling the refresh rate allows half as many cabinets per port — something to know at system design stage, not on site. The wall can only be configured from the front-panel menu if every port follows the same data flow pattern and the chain starts from the first cabinet on port 1; in every other case VMP is required. Several devices can also be discovered and set up from VMP without a switch or router, on one network segment.
Alternatives to the MX40 Pro
If touchscreen on-site operation matters more than port count, the CX40 Pro gives the same COEX base with six 5 Gbit/s ports, at 2.59 million pixels per port at 8-bit/60 Hz. If card-based expandability and mixed inputs are needed, the H series. If you only need to send, without processing, the MCTRL4K is far cheaper. For camera work, the Brompton Tessera SX40.
