VDWall LVP615 LED wall controller

The LVP615 (and its variants, such as the LVP615S) belongs to VDWall's LED HD video processor series, which scales video sources and passes them on towards the LED wall. The official user manual sets out the input and output connectors, along with setup from PC software, an Android app and a Wi-Fi configuration tool.

Alongside NovaStar/Colorlight, VDWall is a further, mainly Asian-made alternative, often used on lower-budget or region-specific projects.

Where the LVP615 sits in an LED wall system

The LVP615S accepts eight video sources and feeds two external sending cards or sending boxes from its two identical DVI outputs; there is also a separate VGA output and a DVI loop output. An important detail is that an internal sending card with an Ethernet port can be fitted as an option — the package includes a blanking plate and a power cable for this — in which case the network cable runs to the receiving cards from a single box, with no separate sender. It can be controlled over RS232, USB, LAN, Wi-Fi and a remote control.

On small to medium-sized LED wall installations that need a simple video processor with PC or mobile configuration.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

The TLS certificate of VDWall's official site (en.vdwall.cn) was in an expired state at the time of the review, so the document was verified from the site of an official VDWall reseller (EagerLED); before a larger project it is worth requesting a current document directly from the manufacturer.

The LVP615 in practice

The RS232 LOOP output can be wired to the RS232 IN input of the next unit, so several processors can be driven from a single computer — on a spliced, ultra-wide wall this saves a separate control machine. The custom output resolution extends to 3840 pixels horizontally and 1920 pixels vertically; above that you have to work in mosaic mode, with several units. Five stereo audio channels can be switched, and the two external analogue inputs (AD1, AD2) can be assigned to any video source and then switch along with the picture — in a conference room this is its most practical function. The unit's consumption stays below 25 W, so it needs no separate cooling in the rack.

Alternatives to the LVP615

If four separate screens have to be served, the Magnimage LED-780H is the bigger sibling, while for a simple wall the Kystar KS600 is enough. On a new system the all-in-one route (NovaStar VX400 or Colorlight X16 Pro) involves fewer devices and keeps the wall configuration in a single piece of software. If the wall is to run without a PC on scheduled content, an asynchronous player is needed: a Taurus TB40 or a Huidu HD-A6L.
