NovaStar DH7512-S LED receiving card

The DH7512-S is the cost-effective receiving card of NovaStar's DH series (an updated version of the earlier DH7512), characterised specifically by good value for money and suitability for high-volume installation. The card has 12 HUB75E connectors, a Gigabit Ethernet port and an LCD display with a 5-pin self-test button. Its input voltage is DC 3.8–5.5 V and its power draw is only 2.5 W.

It supports brightness calibration and seam correction, and includes reliability enhancements such as temperature monitoring and loop-based power recovery. It measures 145.7×91.5×18.3 mm, weighs 93.1 g and has an operating temperature range of -20°C to +70°C.

The DH series is NovaStar's mid-range product, recommended primarily for outdoor advertising wall and indoor display projects where the top-tier functions of the A series (A5s/A8s/A10s) are not required.

Where the DH7512-S sits in an LED wall system

It stands in the same place on the signal path as the MRV series: sending card → Cat5e/Cat6 → DH7512-S → HUB75E ribbon cable → module, with no separate HUB card, thanks to 12 built-in HUB75E ports and 24 groups of parallel data output. Its load capacity is 262,144 pixels, which on a gigabit port — with a capacity of roughly 650,000 pixels — means 2 cards per port. It measures 145.7×91.5×18.3 mm, weighs 93 g and draws only 2.5 W from DC 3.8–5.5 V, so it can be fed from the same 5 V rail as the modules. Alongside its Gigabit Ethernet port it has an LCD display with a 5-pin self-test button. It works with NovaStar senders and NovaLCT.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

On high-quantity, price-sensitive installations (outdoor advertising walls, simpler indoor displays) where the top-tier functions of the A series (HDR, smart module) are not needed.

This datasheet was not directly available from NovaStar's official site, so it was verified from a distributor (third-party) mirror – before purchase it is worth confirming the current version through NovaStar's official channels as well.

The DH7512-S in practice

The LCD display and self-test button on the card are its real practical advantage: during service work a test pattern (white, red, green, blue, grid) can be produced on the spot without a PC, so within seconds you can tell whether the fault lies in the module, the ribbon cable or the signal path — on a large outdoor wall this saves hours. Commissioning follows the usual NovaLCT order: configuration file or `Smart Settings`, cabinet map on the `Screen Connection` tab, then burn to hardware. The DC 3.8–5.5 V input is wide, but on a long, thin power lead the voltage drop can take the supply below 3.8 V and the card restarts at random — the most common phenomenon wrongly reported as a card fault. The datasheet was not directly available from NovaStar's official site and was verified from a distributor mirror, so before ordering a larger quantity it is worth confirming the current version and firmware through the manufacturer's channel.

Alternatives to the DH7512-S

If HDR, hot backup redundancy or fine-pitch picture quality is the aim, the A5s Plus and the A8s are the next step up — at the cost of needing a HUB card alongside them. For a larger cabinet and more data groups, the MRV412-N likewise has 12 HUB75E ports but greater capacity. In other ecosystems the Huidu HD-R512T and the Colorlight 5A-75B are its direct value-for-money counterparts. If the wall is specifically high-resolution and colour-critical (a studio, a premium interior), this card is under-specified — the A8s Pro or the A10s Pro belongs there. The deciding factors: how price-sensitive the project is, and whether top-tier picture quality is required.
