NovaStar MRV412-N LED receiving card

The MRV412-N is a member of NovaStar's MRV series (introduced as the successor to the earlier MRV412), with 12 built-in HUB75E output connectors, so it drives the modules directly without a separate HUB card. With a PWM driver IC, a single card is loadable to 512×512 pixels at 60 Hz, falling to 512×384 pixels with a common driver IC.

The card accepts up to 24 groups of parallel RGB data and offers NovaStar's usual per-pixel calibration and 18bit+ grayscale enhancement functions. The MRV series was designed specifically for HUB75E-compatible, cabinet-free module-built LED walls, where the receiving card can be mounted directly onto the back of the module.

Where the MRV412-N sits in an LED wall system

What distinguishes it from the other NovaStar cards is that the signal path is one element shorter: sending card → Cat5e/Cat6 → MRV412-N → HUB75E ribbon cable → module, because the 12 HUB75E connectors are on the card, with no separate HUB card. On cabinet-free, module-built walls — an outdoor advertising sign or a simple indoor display — this means fewer components and fewer failure points. It is loadable to 512×512 pixels with a PWM driver IC and 512×384 with a common IC, and outputs 24 groups of parallel RGB data. It measures 145.6×91.5 mm, so it is considerably larger than the 70×45 mm cards of the A series — the mounting plate has to be designed for this. It works with NovaStar senders and NovaLCT.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

There are several similar models within the MRV series (MRV412-N, MRV416-N, MRV532) with differing port counts and capacities – the right one has to be chosen in line with the module's HUB arrangement.

The MRV412-N in practice

The order of the 12 HUB75E ports is the most important question on site: the modules' ribbon cables have to be plugged in according to the arrangement drawn on NovaLCT's `Screen Connection` tab, with pin 1 of the cable aligned to the module's marking — plugged in the wrong way round, the module stays dark or shows noise. The scan mode and the HUB arrangement either come from the cabinet manufacturer's .rcfgx file or have to be entered in the `Smart Settings` wizard; without the `Save Configuration Files to Hardware` step, every setting lasts only until the first power cut. The MRV family contains several similar models with differing port counts and capacities (MRV412-N, MRV416-N, MRV532), so the choice at ordering has to be made against the module's HUB arrangement — a card with the wrong port count cannot be fixed in software. Replacing a card loses the configuration and calibration of that section; keep 3–5% of the installed quantity as spares, on the same firmware version.

Alternatives to the MRV412-N

If the wall is of cabinet construction and has a proper HUB card in it, the A5s Plus or the A8s works in less space and with more functions (HDR, redundancy). For a price-sensitive, high-volume outdoor installation the DH7512-S likewise has 12 HUB75E ports but is cheaper, and assists service work with an LCD display and a self-test button. In other ecosystems the Huidu HD-R512T and the Linsn RV908M32 are its direct counterparts, also with built-in HUB75 ports. For a larger, fine-pitch cabinet, the A8s Pro or the Colorlight i9. The deciding factors: whether the wall is cabinet-built or module-built, how many data lines come out of the modules, and how much room there is for the card.
