Brompton Tessera M2 LED wall processor
The Tessera M2 is Brompton's flagship HD processor, intended primarily for rental companies: it combines performance, flexibility and extensive input and front-end processing. The machine offers one DVI-I and two 3G-SDI inputs (which can also be used together as Dual Link SDI), and removes the need for an external scaler or scan converter, reducing both the system cost and the latency.
It includes broadcast-quality video processing, with motion-adaptive deinterlacing and cropping, along with two parallel processing channels that allow clean mixing or switching between video sources and/or settings. On the output side there are four 1G Tessera ports, with a capacity of 525,000 pixels per line.
Configuration is handled by the Tessera Management Software, which includes Brompton's distinctive functions: On-Screen Colour Adjustment (OSCA) for correcting seam faults, Dark Magic for bringing out dark detail and ChromaTune for colour replacement.
Where the Tessera M2 sits in an LED wall system
The M2 brings the broadcast inputs of the HD era: DVI-I and two 3G-SDI (also as Dual Link SDI), with a genlock input and four 1G Tessera outputs at 525,000 pixels per port. In the chain it replaces a separate scaler and scan converter — the camera or vision mixer signal goes straight into it, and the Tessera protocol goes out to the wall over Cat6. On the panel side a Tessera-compatible receiving card is required, in a DDR2 SO-DIMM socket: this is where a panel manufacturer's "Brompton compatible" marking counts, because without it neither the calibration nor Dark Magic is available.

Rental companies and event service providers needing broadcast-quality front-end video processing (deinterlacing, mixing two parallel sources) for HD-resolution content.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
It has no native 4K input; the system works to a maximum resolution of 1920×1080. The receiver cards (Tessera compatible) require a DDR2 SO-DIMM socket on the panel side.
The Tessera M2 in practice
In practice the two parallel processing chains mean you can switch cleanly between two sources or two settings — at a live event this replaces a separate mixer. Motion-adaptive deinterlacing is critical with an interlaced SDI source (older cameras, a 1080i broadcast feed): without it the combed edges show up crudely on the wall. In front of a camera the genlock comes from the studio's tri-level reference; ShutterSync does not appear among the M2's functions on the datasheet, so the shutter angle and the panel refresh rate have to be aligned by hand. The 3-frame latency (2 in low-latency mode) is already noticeable for IMAG — where the audience sees the stage and the wall at once — and has to be handled together with the audio delay.
Alternatives to the Tessera M2
For a 4K input and a greater pixel capacity, the SX40 (9 million px, HDMI 2.0b and 12G-SDI) or the S8 belongs there; for 8K and AVoIP, the SQ200. Downwards, the T1 with a single port. If broadcast inputs and deinterlacing are not needed — a fixed advertising board, a shopfront, a conference wall — this level is superfluous: a NovaStar MCTRL660 Pro or VX600 belongs there, which also handles SDI, at a fraction of the price.
