Brompton Tessera SQ200 LED wall processor

The Tessera SQ200 is Brompton's highest-capacity processor, designed for 8K, handling AV-over-IP (SMPTE ST 2110, IPMX) streams natively over two dedicated 100G/25G/10G QSFP28 ports, up to 36 million pixels of output capacity, with closed loop redundancy. The machine can also be expanded with up to 4 baseband video input cards, with 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 inputs per card (one active source per card).

The processor uses a licence-based model: the pixel capacity (9/18/27/36 million) and the feature pack (Definition / Simulation / Performance / Ultimate) can be chosen independently of each other, so the buyer only pays for what they actually need. The operating mode (Single Stream / Multi Stream / Multi Stream AVoIP) is likewise licensable.

Importantly, this datasheet is marked by the manufacturer as a "Preliminary Data Sheet", so the final specification may still change.

Where the Tessera SQ200 sits in an LED wall system

The SQ200 is the entry point to the AVoIP era in the Tessera chain: it takes the picture from the studio's ST 2110 / IPMX network over two 100G QSFP28 ports — that is, the media server hands the signal over on an IP network rather than over SDI — and the sync from PTP (ST 2059) or from conventional tri-level genlock. For baseband sources there are four expansion card slots with 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 inputs. On the panel side a Tessera R2/R2+ receiving card is required here too; the licensed pixel capacity (9/18/27/36 million) and feature pack determine what the machine can actually do.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

The largest 8K LED walls and AVoIP-based (ST2110/IPMX) broadcast or studio infrastructures, where pixel capacity scalable by licence matters.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

The datasheet currently available is preliminary ("Preliminary"), and the final specification may change; the actual capability (pixel capacity, functions) depends on the licence, so the exact code required (SQ200 U36E4, for instance) has to be settled before procurement.

The Tessera SQ200 in practice

The licence model is the most important operational point: the capacity and the feature pack (Definition / Simulation / Performance / Ultimate) can be bought independently, so the pixel count and the required functions have to be worked out precisely before the project — a hired machine "cannot do" the requested function if the pack does not include it, and this typically comes to light on show day. With PTP-based sync the network itself is the sync source: the switches have to be capable of boundary clock, or the wall and the camera drift apart. The datasheet is marked by the manufacturer as preliminary (`Preliminary`), so the final specification has to be checked at the time of delivery. The 2-frame latency drops to 1 in ULL mode.

Alternatives to the Tessera SQ200

If there is no AVoIP infrastructure and 9 million pixels is enough, the SX40 is considerably cheaper and more mature; up to 4.5 million pixels, the S8. The ST 2110/IPMX-native competitor is the Megapixel HELIOS, which likewise works over a 100G port but with its own ecosystem. For a fixed installation — an advertising board, a shopfront, a foyer wall — this level is not justified: a NovaStar MX40 Pro or H series belongs there if the resolution is high.
