Colorlight 5A-75B LED receiving card

The 5A-75B is Colorlight's receiving card designed specifically for good value for money, with the aim of reducing costs and cutting the number of failure points. A single card is loadable to 256×1024 pixels and accepts up to 32 groups of parallel or 32 groups of serial data. The card can be integrated into the HUB75 connectors, which makes for a more reliable and more economical solution than conventional receiving cards.

Its functions include an 8-bit video source input, colour temperature adjustment, a 240 Hz refresh rate, and per-pixel brightness and colour calibration (to 8-bit precision). For maintenance, the card supports cabinet highlighting, image rotation (90°/180°/270°) and fast firmware updates.

On reliability it offers loop redundancy, Ethernet cable status monitoring and firmware redundancy (with read-back), over a 1 Gbit/s Ethernet port, with a recommended maximum of 100 metres of Cat5e cabling.

Where the 5A-75B sits in an LED wall system

The workhorse of the Colorlight ecosystem: Colorlight sending card or processor (S2, Z6 Pro, X series) → Cat5e → 5A-75B → 8 built-in HUB75 ports → module. No separate HUB card is needed, because the card can be integrated directly into the HUB75 connectors, which means fewer components and fewer failure points. One card is loadable to 256×1024 pixels and accepts 16/32 groups of data (expandable to 128). The manufacturer recommends a maximum Cat5e run of 100 metres between the sender and the first card, with the signal continuing in a chain between cards. Configuration is done with the LEDVISION playback and control software, or with Colorlight's LEDSETTING/iSet parameter program — it works exclusively with the Colorlight protocol, not with a NovaStar or Linsn sender.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

Price-sensitive, high-volume LED wall installations using the Colorlight ecosystem (sending cards, software), where the highest-tier fine-pitch functions are not required.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

The high 240 Hz refresh rate reduces the loadable pixel count – this has to be taken into account when designing the modules; the card is only compatible with Colorlight sending cards and protocol.

The 5A-75B in practice

Addressing and port order are set in software here too: the LEDVISION screen setup is where you draw which card sits where in the wall, while the scan mode and the module parameters either come from the manufacturer's ready-made .rcg configuration file or have to be entered by hand. The setting has to be saved to the card, or it is lost at power-down. The most important design point is that the high 240 Hz refresh rate and the loadable pixel count work against each other: if the wall goes in front of a camera and a high refresh rate is needed, the nominal 256×1024 pixels cannot be exploited, so more cards have to be planned in. The 5A-75B is one of the most copied cards on the market; clones often become unusable after a firmware update and LEDVISION does not recognise them either, so buy only through official distribution channels. Keep 3–5% of the installed quantity as spares, on the same firmware version.

Alternatives to the 5A-75B

If the module's wiring direction or the HUB arrangement calls for something else, the 5A-75E does the same with 16 HUB75 ports and 262,144 pixels. For a fine-pitch, HDR-capable, high-prestige indoor wall, the Colorlight i9 is the next step up (14-bit calibration, cabinet monitoring). In other ecosystems the NovaStar DH7512-S and the Huidu HD-R512T are its direct value-for-money counterparts, while the Linsn RV908M32 is the equivalent designed for manufacturer standardisation — but switching always affects the sending card and the software as well. The deciding factors: which manufacturer's sender is in the system, whether a high refresh rate is needed, and what the module's HUB arrangement looks like.
