Colorlight 5A-75E LED receiving card

The 5A-75E is the sibling model of Colorlight's 5A-75B, with the same design philosophy of good value for money but a greater pixel capacity: a single card is loadable to 256×1024 (or 1024×256, depending on the wiring direction) pixels and accepts up to 32 groups of parallel or 32 groups of serial data (expandable to 128). It can be integrated into the HUB75 connectors, reducing the number of failure points in the system.

Its functions match those of the 5A-75B: 8-bit video source input, colour temperature adjustment, a 240 Hz refresh rate (at the expense of the loadable pixel count), 8-bit per-pixel brightness and colour calibration, cabinet highlighting, fast OSD, image rotation and data group offset.

On reliability it likewise offers loop redundancy, Ethernet cable status monitoring and firmware redundancy, over a 1 Gbit/s Ethernet port, with a recommended maximum of 100 metres of Cat5e cabling, over an operating temperature range of -25°C to +75°C.

Where the 5A-75E sits in an LED wall system

The receiving card sits on the back of the cabinet, behind the modules: the Cat5e/Cat6 cable from the sending card comes in on its input, and the 16 HUB75 ports on its output carry flat ribbon cable to the modules' input connectors. It takes power from the cabinet's 5V rail, the same one that feeds the modules. One receiving card covers a continuous rectangle of the wall (here up to 262,144 pixels) and is given its image coordinates and module configuration in Colorlight's software (LEDVISION / LEDSET).

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

On price-sensitive installations similar to those of the 5A-75B, where the module's wiring direction or the particular HUB arrangement makes the 5A-75E the better fit.

Effectively the same feature set as the 5A-75B – the choice depends primarily on the module's wiring direction and on availability.

The 5A-75E in practice

The 16 built-in HUB75 ports eliminate the most common source of faults: the separate adapter card and the extra contacts of its ribbon cables. In practice, a picture that breaks up, drifts or disappears on half a module is nine times out of ten not a receiving card fault but a badly seated or damaged ribbon cable — change the cable before you change the card. At commissioning the module's configuration file (receiving card file) is decisive: with the wrong scan mode or the wrong data group setting the picture appears, but in the wrong order and with banding. Ask the supplier for the configuration file belonging to the wall and save it — years later, when a repair is needed, it is irreplaceable.

Alternatives to the 5A-75E

If the wall is not built in the Colorlight ecosystem, NovaStar's receiving cards (the MRV series, for instance) are the equivalent — the sending card and the receiving card have to come from the same manufacturer, and these cannot be mixed. If the modules use HUB320 or another connector, a receiving card with an adapter card is needed. A cabinet with a higher pixel count needs a card with a greater load capacity: at P1.5, 262,144 pixels is only about 0.6 m² of wall surface.
