NovaStar A10s Pro LED receiving card

The A10s Pro is one of the highest-capacity members of NovaStar's Armor series: with an 8- or 10-bit video source and a PWM driver IC, a single card is loadable to 512×512 pixels at 60 Hz; with a 12-bit source this falls to 512×256 pixels. The card introduces Adaptive Thermal Compensation technology, which dynamically corrects the colour shift caused by uneven heat dissipation across the panel.

Its other key functions: Dynamic Booster (real-time, frame-by-frame contrast and detail enhancement, which also reduces energy consumption), Full-Grayscale Calibration (individual calibration per grayscale level, generated with a NovaStar C3200 scientific camera), and support for NCP files, which allow content display, firmware updates and picture quality optimisation to be carried out quickly and uniformly.

The A10s Pro accepts either 32 groups of parallel or 64 groups of serial RGB data (expandable to 128), with EMC Class B and RoHS certification.

Where the A10s Pro sits in an LED wall system

It works inside the cabinet, at the end of the signal path: sending card (VX600/VX1000, MX series) → Cat5e/Cat6 → A10s Pro → HUB → module. With an 8- or 10-bit source and a PWM driver IC it is loadable to 512×512 pixels, and to 512×256 with a 12-bit source — so the bit depth can halve the cabinet count outright, which is why it has to be fixed in advance at system design stage. Roughly 650,000 pixels fit on a gigabit port, so 2–3 of these cards go per port. On the data side, 32 groups of parallel or 64 groups of serial RGB (expandable to 128). It measures 80×45 mm, which is larger than the 70×45 mm of the A5s/A8s family — check the cabinet mechanics before swapping.

WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

Top-tier, high pixel density indoor/outdoor LED walls where long-term colour stability (thermal compensation) and the highest level of grayscale calibration are priority considerations.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

Using Full-Grayscale Calibration requires a NovaStar C3200 camera and the associated calibration workflow; the NCP file-based workflow requires the appropriate version of NovaLCT.

The A10s Pro in practice

The card's two flagship functions each require a separate workflow. Adaptive Thermal Compensation corrects the colour shift caused by uneven heating of the panel — striking on an outdoor wall with wide temperature swings during the first hours after switch-on — while Full-Grayscale Calibration can only be produced with a NovaStar C3200 scientific camera and its associated calibration process; without the camera the function cannot be exploited, however much it is built into the card. The NCP file-based workflow needs the appropriate NovaLCT version. Commissioning is otherwise the usual: load the configuration file, draw the cabinet map, then burn it to hardware. Mixing the A10s Pro with the older A series in one wall is not recommended, because the calibration models differ and the cabinets drift apart in tint. Spares here too at 3–5%, but because of the high price at least two, on the same firmware.

Alternatives to the A10s Pro

If thermal compensation and camera-based grayscale calibration are not needed, the A8s Pro delivers the same 512×512 pixels for considerably less, and the A8s at 512×384 is the proven middle way. In a new COEX-based system its counterpart is the CA50E, which needs fewer cards still at 768×512 pixels. On a high-volume, price-sensitive outdoor advertising wall this card is over-specified — the DH7512-S is the realistic choice there. In other ecosystems the Colorlight i9 is the comparable top tier. The deciding factors: how critical long-term colour stability is, whether the project has a calibration camera, and whether an 80×45 mm card fits the cabinet.
