G-Energy JPS200V LED wall component
The JPS series from G-Energy (a Chinese manufacturer, a widespread name in the LED display industry) is the power supply category designed specifically for the modules' own low-voltage (typically 5V) supply, and the main difference from the general-purpose supplies in the second category of the brief (Mean Well HLG/LRS/RSP/EPP) is the slim build that fits into the module's thin cabinet. According to the manufacturer's product page the JPS200V has a maximum output of 200 W at 5V, with a 0-40A output current, ripple of ≤150 mV and at least 78% efficiency, measuring 195×110×30 mm, with fan (forced airflow) cooling.
This power supply category (G-Energy JPS/GPS, and the products of similar Chinese manufacturers such as Chuangliang and Bina) makes up the actual, direct power supply of LED wall modules — if it is under-designed or has aged, the wall can run short of current near its nominal brightness (a full white picture at high brightness, for instance), which leads to visible brightness unevenness (patchiness) even if the lamp beads and driver ICs themselves are perfectly good.
Where the JPS200V sits in an LED wall system
The JPS sits in the cabinet's rear compartment, next to the receiving card, and works directly into the modules' 5V power connectors — typically one supply serves a few modules, with two or three modules chained per power cable. The logic supply of the receiving card and the HUB card also runs from the same 5V, so a collapsing supply not only dims the picture but can also disrupt the receiving card's communication: in that case the module does not fade but drops out at random or produces a noisy, streaky picture.
WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
For the direct 5V supply of LED modules, mounted in a cabinet or a distribution enclosure, where the slim form factor is critical because of the space.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
The maximum 200W output stated on the manufacturer's datasheet does not mean it may be operated continuously at full (100%) utilisation — in practice it is sensible to size power supplies for 70-80% continuous load, so that there is reserve capacity (derating) for peak-brightness full white pictures and for rising temperature.
The JPS200V in practice
The 40 A output cannot be allocated in full: with a 200 W supply, plan for 140-160 W of actual load, because the remainder is the reserve for the peak demand of a full white picture and for the derating caused by rising summer temperatures. When requesting a quotation, ask the supplier for two figures rather than one: the wall's average AND maximum (full white, 100% brightness) consumption per square metre — most dealers quote the average, whereas the electrician needs the maximum to size the supply. The ≤150 mV ripple also matters for the picture: with an aged supply with higher ripple the wall can pulse faintly or show banding on camera.
Alternatives to the JPS200V
In the same category, the G-Energy GPS series and the slim 5V supplies of several similar Chinese manufacturers compete; the decision typically comes down to the cabinet's mounting depth and to service access. If the system is built into a distribution cabinet rather than a module cabinet, the LRS-350 or the RSP-500 is more durable and better documented. A fan-free, quiet solution is only possible at lower power density — in a quiet space this has to be stipulated in advance.
