In short

P5 outdoor is the coarsest-pitch, most cost-effective member of the SMD series: with a 5 mm pitch and ≥4500 cd/m² brightness it is optimised for large billboards and busy roadside advertising surfaces with a viewing distance of 13–15 metres or more. On larger surfaces of many dozens of square metres it gives the most favourable price per square metre in our outdoor range. With IP65 protection and a -20 to +60 °C temperature range it runs stably all year round, in a rear maintenance build. Its average consumption is 271 W/m² (814 W/m² at peak), and with a 100,000-hour service life it is a high-volume investment you can plan for.

LED module P5 outdoor – SMD 4500 nit

The P5 outdoor module is for projects where the size of the wall and the return on investment are the deciding factors rather than millimetre pixel sharpness: a large billboard, an advertising board beside a motorway or main road, the external wall of a stadium or sports facility, where viewers typically see the content from 13–15 metres or more, often from a moving vehicle. At that distance the larger 5 mm pixel size takes nothing away visually from the image quality, while it significantly reduces the number of modules needed and the consumption on a given surface, which on large walls means serious savings in both investment and running costs. The ≥4500 cd/m² brightness and the 8000:1 contrast again ensure good readability in strong sunlight, and the rear maintenance build allows servicing without breaking into the front of the wall — a particularly important consideration on large, high-mounted billboards.

The most cost-effective solution for a large surface

The P5 outdoor module is for projects where the size of the wall — often dozens or hundreds of square metres — and the payback period of the investment are the most important design considerations. At this scale the larger 5 mm pixel pitch means no perceptible loss of quality, since the typical viewing distance is 13–15 metres or more — from a road, a motorway or the other side of a square, the extra detail of a finer pitch simply does not register. At the same time the larger pixel size means proportionally fewer LED chips, a lower unit price and lower consumption on a given surface, which on large-board projects multiplies into a significant sum across the total investment.

Brightness and readability from a distance

The ≥4500 cd/m² brightness and the 8000:1 contrast ensure that the content stays instantly readable and recognisable from a long distance, from a moving car, while passing quickly — a critical consideration on billboard and motorway projects, since the viewer gives the board only a few seconds. Automatic brightness control gives optimal visibility by day and night alike, and the 3840–7680 Hz refresh range ensures that video content runs smoothly and flicker-free, with good results when recorded on camera too.

Rear maintenance on large, high walls

The P5 outdoor module is serviced from the rear, which is critical on large, often high-mounted billboards and roadside boards: the technician reaches the modules from the protected back of the wall, with no need to build scaffolding at the front or close the road during maintenance. The dual HUB75 signal interface (2 ports) provides redundant signal transmission, one of the foundations of reliability on large-format, business-critical surfaces. The IP65 protection and the -20 to +60 °C operating temperature range guarantee stable operation throughout the year, from rain to summer heat.

Investment, running costs and consents

Average consumption is 271 W/m² and 814 W/m² at peak — on a large billboard of many square metres that figure is the basis for planning the running cost, which we present with a concrete worked example after the site survey. For a large advertising surface visible from a distance in public space, the question of a public-space use permit and a townscape notification is of particular importance — we help with that whole process, from the documentation to the official submission. The 100,000-hour service life, the Warranty+ package and the local spare parts supply guarantee that a high-volume investment stays predictable and safe over the long term.

LED module P5 outdoor – SMD 4500 nit — frequently asked questions

Why choose P5 rather than P4 or P3?

If the wall is large (many dozens of square metres) and viewers typically see it from 13–15 metres or further, P5 gives the same visual experience as a finer pitch but at a substantially better price per square metre.

Is it suitable beside a motorway, for fast passing traffic?

Yes — the ≥4500 cd/m² brightness and the 8000:1 contrast are designed specifically so that the content is instantly readable and recognisable from a long distance, from a moving vehicle, in a short space of time.

How is servicing done on a large, high billboard?

The module is serviced from the rear, so the technician replaces modules from the protected back of the wall, with no need to build scaffolding at the front or close the road during maintenance.

What does it cost to run a large P5 billboard?

Average consumption is 271 W/m² and 814 W/m² at peak — on a large surface that is the basis for planning the monthly running cost, which we present with a concrete worked example for your project after the site survey.

Who handles the consents for a large billboard in public space?

We help through the public-space use permit and townscape notification process, from the site survey to compiling the documentation and making the official submission, with full support.
