The card connects over Wi-Fi to your phone or tablet, and from the free app you can upload text, images and simple animations straight to the wall. Because it is an asynchronous controller, the content is held in the card's memory, so it keeps running on the display after the phone is switched off. Its small size and low consumption make it easy to build even into a desktop advertising sign. In the compatible modules we use quality-controlled, bin-matched LED chips, so even your first, smaller project is dependable.

When you need it, and the close range at which it works well

The WF1 is worth choosing if you want to commission a smaller LED wall, typically 1–2 square metres, quickly and without a computer. Typical uses are a shop window, a reception board, a smaller event counter or a desktop advertising surface, where the content does not change by the minute but is refreshed daily or weekly, and viewers typically read it from 1–4 metres away. Because you handle the control from a phone, no dedicated computer is needed next to the display, which saves space and cost. It is also a good choice for those meeting an LED wall for the first time, since commissioning can be done with beginner-level knowledge. If, on the other hand, you want a live video signal, a camera feed or fast, second-by-second content switching, it is better to move towards a synchronous video processor solution — the WF1 is at its best with static and slowly changing content.

Compatibility and installation

The WF1 works with the widely used HUB75 LED modules, so it can be fitted into most smaller rental or fixed installations. The card has to be connected to the wall's power supply and the modules' data cable; after that, the phone app automatically finds the network created by the WF1. Once configured, the card can also join the local Wi-Fi router, so day-to-day refreshing can be done from a home or office network. The card can only serve a limited number of pixels at once, so for larger, multi-module walls we recommend its bigger siblings, the WF2 or the WF4. Installation calls for basic care around electronics, but it can be done without a professional.

Many people worry that a first, smaller LED project will quickly disappoint because it is built from cheap components that soon go patchy. The modules compatible with the WF1 are shipped after quality control with bin-matched LED chips, so the wall still shows a uniform colour years later. If a repair is nevertheless needed, we supply the part from regional stock with service backing behind it, and because of the modular build the swap can be done in minutes. You can also request a free site survey, so that you are sure of the right size and pixel pitch as early as the design stage.

Running it: consumption and simplicity of use

The average operating consumption of a smaller 1–2 m² sign driven by a WF1 typically runs at around 30–50 W/m², higher at peak load, but even so the monthly electricity cost is a negligible item for a small business. The phone app is so simple that if you can write an email you will learn to handle this in minutes, and at handover we give a practical demonstration so that you upload the first content yourself.

Does it need a computer for daily use?

No — you control the WF1 from a phone or tablet through the app; a computer may be needed for the initial setup, but often not even then.

What size of wall is it recommended for?

We recommend it above all for smaller walls of one or two modules, a few square metres in size. For a larger surface it is worth choosing the WF2 or WF4 controller.

Can it play live video?

The WF1 is an asynchronous controller, so it displays stored content (images, text, simple animation); a live video signal calls for a synchronous, video processor solution.
