The card provides significantly more pixel capacity than its smaller siblings, so a single unit can cover a larger, multi-module LED wall. Asynchronous operation is retained here too: the uploaded content is held in the card's memory and keeps running on its own, without interruption, after the phone or tablet is switched off. This is an excellent solution for those who want a large surface but do not want to introduce a video processor, an HDMI signal source and the technical complexity that goes with them. In the modules we use quality-controlled, bin-matched LED chips, so a facade wall keeps a uniform, premium appearance for years.

Who it is for, and the viewing distance it is designed for

We recommend the WF4 for projects where the LED wall is already substantial in size but the nature of the content does not call for a live video signal or second-by-second switching. Typical uses are a larger advertising wall in a shopping centre, a company's facade display, a large-hall event wall, or the more static boards of sports facilities, typically at a viewing distance of 8–15 metres. Because a single card can handle a greater number of pixels, the number of devices in the system falls, which simplifies maintenance and reduces the number of failure points. Importantly, although the capacity is large, handling stays just as simple as with the smaller members of the family, so no separate technical staff have to be trained for the daily content refresh.

When a video processor is needed after all

It is worth being clear that the WF4 is also an asynchronous controller, so it is made primarily for still images, text and simpler, pre-uploaded animations, not for showing a live video signal. If your project involves a live camera feed, a presentation coming in over HDMI, or fast content switching by the second, then a synchronous video processor solution (the VP210 or VP410) is the right direction. The main difference between the WF4 and the video processors is that an asynchronous card stores the content and plays it back on its own, whereas a synchronous system sends a continuous live signal to the wall. On many larger installations the two solutions are combined: the WF4 for the more static, overnight or default content, and the video processor for live events.

Why investing in a facade-scale wall is not a risk

A facade or large-hall wall is a significant investment, so it is a fair expectation that it should run reliably over the long term. In the modules compatible with the WF4 we use the same quality-controlled, bin-matched LED chips as in our premium projects, so brightness degradation is predictable and slow, and manageable through calibration. In the event of a failure the modular build means the faulty element is accessible from the front and takes minutes to replace, and we supply the part from regional stock with service backing behind it. This combination guarantees that a large, eye-catching investment does not become a liability but a reliable brand-building asset that pays for itself over time.

Running it: consumption and handing over the controls

The average operating consumption of the larger 8–10 m² wall that goes with the WF4 typically runs at around 40–70 W/m², and at full white, maximum-brightness peak load it can rise to as much as double, but with mixed daily content the lower figure is the one that counts. The monthly electricity cost of a wall this size is therefore still a well-plannable, calculable item, not a surprise on the bill. Operation through the phone app is just as simple as with the smaller cards: if you can write an email you will learn to handle this too, and as part of the handover we run practical training for the operating team.
