How much space it saves you

57 × 68 cm, that is a footprint of 0.39 m². A 108 cm wide cushioned armchair, by comparison, takes 0.83 m² — so two of these tub chairs stand where one large armchair does. If the aim is guest numbers, this model doubles them. Four pieces around a low table make a lounge island on about 4 m². That is the size that fits into a 3 × 4 metre marquee or a narrow strip of terrace.

Handling the cushion in the daily routine

The body is polyethylene, IP54 water-resistant and UV-resistant, so it can stay outside. The cushion cannot: it has to be taken in before rain and at closing time. On a terrace with twenty chairs that is two rounds a day, about ten minutes — it is worth keeping a dry store on site for them. Handle them separately for transport too: carry the cushions in a bag, not on the furniture. That way they do not soak up the dust of the journey and do not have to be dusted down before every set-up.

Light and running time

The 2600 mAh battery goes with the smaller body; the manufacturer states 6–8 hours of lighting time across the range, depending on the colour. That covers the full length of an evening programme. The seven colours are switched by remote control, on every piece at once. If you mix cushioned and uncushioned pieces, the light still stays uniform — the guest sees the colour, not the type of cushion.

Loading and hiring out

10 kg and 57 cm wide: one person carries it, through doorways without trouble. Two people put two pieces in on one trip, so an eight-chair lounge is four trips. In the load space, at 57 × 68 cm, eight pieces fit in a single layer on a 1.7 × 3 metre floor. For hire the cushion is the one part that needs separate handling: it is worth recording by the piece, because it can wear and go missing, while the polyethylene body is ready to go out again as soon as it is wiped down.

What a lounge zone built from it costs

Four tub chairs for one island cost four times the price of a single piece, and eight for two islands eight times it; the price per piece is shown above on this page. Compared with it, the uncushioned 64 cm wide tub chair is about a quarter cheaper, so the cushion and the narrower body carry a surcharge of roughly a third per piece. That pays off if the guest really does sit for a while. In short, fast-turning spots — a terrace opening, a cocktail hour, a festival strip — the uncushioned model is more economical, and it comes with no daily carrying in and out.
