A 64-bit, real-time media processing and compositing system built on dedicated server hardware, with 3D mapping and virtual production functions.

AV Stumpfl PIXERA content management software
PIXERA is the server-based platform of the Austrian manufacturer AV Stumpfl: real-time media processing, compositing and 3D projection/LED mapping, extended with show control and audio integration as well. The system scales across several server models (zero, ONE, TWO, FOUR, and RS/redundant variants), so the processing capacity can be matched to the size of the project.
PIXERA also offers virtual production functions, which makes studio/broadcast applications a relevant audience alongside event technology. For getting started, a free, limited "Creator" demo licence is available, with which the system can be explored without live hardware.
Where the PIXERA sits in an LED wall system
As a server, PIXERA stands in the place of the media source: the server's video outputs go to the inputs of the LED processors, and it also sends and receives signal over NDI and the network. 3D mapping is part of the system, so the wall's real geometry — curved, split, multi-angle segments — can be modelled and the content fitted to it, not just to a flat surface. Show control and audio integration are also included, so picture, sound and external devices can be driven from a single timeline. Processing capacity scales with the server model (zero, ONE, TWO, FOUR, and the redundant variants).
WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT CHOICE
On larger, complex visual installations and virtual production projects, where 3D mapping, show control and the reliability of redundant, dedicated server hardware all matter.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Using PIXERA to its full extent requires dedicated AV Stumpfl server hardware — the free Creator licence is for demonstration and learning, and is not sufficient on its own for a live, high-load project.
The PIXERA in practice
Getting started is free: with the Creator licence the complete editor can be explored without live hardware, so design and learning can be done in advance, while high-load live playback requires the manufacturer's dedicated server hardware. The learning curve is steeper than Resolume's and flatter than TouchDesigner's: anyone who has handled a media server before will get to a first working show in a few days. One pitfall is that content prepared at the native resolution and in a suitable codec is a precondition here too, and that for redundant operation the second server has to be priced in at the start of the design, not afterwards. There is no Hungarian interface or support; the program is in English, German, Russian and Chinese.
Alternatives to the PIXERA
On a permanent installation with many outputs and a long running time, WATCHOUT is the established competitor, and in an XR studio disguise Designer. If the project runs onto a single wall with live hands-on mixing, Resolume Arena is enough at a fraction of the price. For generative content calculated in real time, TouchDesigner is the better tool, and it can also be wired in alongside PIXERA. The deciding factors are the number of outputs, the need for redundancy, and whether real 3D geometry is required.
