Seen through the lens of a permanent display, Varaždin splits cleanly into two towns. Inside the baroque core - the Stari grad fortress, Trg kralja Tomislava, Franjevački trg and the pedestrian Korzo running between them - a large luminous rectangle is rarely the right instrument, and we say so before anyone spends money on a drawing. Everything from the ring road outwards behaves like a normal commercial market: the Kneginec business zone with the Lumini centre at the southern entrance, the approach roads towards Zagreb and Maribor, the production sites of Vindija and Varteks, Arena Varaždin, Stadion Varteks and the lecture buildings of Sveučilište Sjever. Almost every fixed screen we build for this city ends up in the second Varaždin, and a good part of our advice is about recognising which of the two an address belongs to.

Protected core, and everything beyond the ring
Addresses inside the historic centre are governed by rules on how a frontage may look, and the practical consequence is that a bright, moving surface of any size is a difficult proposition there. We will still survey such a site and prepare the technical material if you wish to pursue it, but we do not promise an outcome that is not ours to grant. The screens that work in Varaždin are on the retail and industrial belt: a wall facing the car park at a dealership on the Zagreb road, a display above a service reception in the Kneginec zone, a scoreboard-adjacent picture inside Arena Varaždin, a lobby panel at a manufacturing site. Establishing which category your address falls into is step one, and it takes a phone call rather than a survey.

Why the finished size is never a round number of your choosing
Every wall we build is assembled from a single tile that is 320 millimetres wide and 160 millimetres tall, always in that orientation. Width therefore advances in steps of 32 centimetres and height in steps of 16, and a request for a screen 4 metres by 2.5 metres cannot be met exactly. What you can have is 4.16 by 2.40 metres - thirteen tiles across, fifteen rows down - or 3.84 by 2.56, and the choice between them is usually decided by the opening in the elevation rather than by preference. We prefer to receive a measured opening early, because the tile count then falls out of it automatically and the frame, the power budget and the price follow from the same number.

Forecourt, hall and carriageway compared
Pixel pitch is not a quality grade, it is a distance decision. Where people stand within two or three metres - a showroom, a reception desk, a foyer at Sveučilište Sjever - P1.5 to P2.5 keeps text clean at close range. A hall or a wide sales floor viewed from ten to twenty metres is comfortable at P2.5 to P4. A wall read from a moving car on the ring road, or from the far side of a large car park, works at P4 to P8, and specifying anything finer there simply raises the price without changing what the driver sees. We take the nearest reasonable reader and the furthest one, and select for the pair rather than for a single figure.
The rolling LED poster as an alternative to building anything
640 by 1920 millimetres on a wheeled foot, plugged into a socket
Not every requirement in this city needs a wall bolted to a building. The LED poster is a portrait-format display on a rolling base: a 640 by 1920 millimetre picture area in a frame 201 centimetres tall, weighing 45 kilograms, which the customer positions and plugs in without scaffolding, an access platform, a facade fixing or a structural opinion. In the Kneginec zone and on the concourse at Lumini it does the job a printed poster used to do, in a P2.5 indoor version running at 700 to 800 nits; a P2.5 outdoor cabinet build of the same frame reaches 4,500 to 5,000 nits for a covered forecourt. Its controllers chain, so several units driven as one continuous surface let you begin with a single poster at an entrance and extend later. We will be straight about the limits of the argument here: at 220 kilometres from Győr a fitted wall in Varaždin is entirely realistic, so the poster wins on the protected frontage, on the tenancy that may move, and on the budget - not on the distance.
Continental winter over the Drava plain
Frost, fog and what a sealed enclosure has to do
This is not a coastal market and the failure modes are different ones. The Drava plain produces long periods of freezing fog, days when the temperature crosses zero repeatedly, and heavy summer thunderstorms. An outdoor wall here is built to IP65 with a running brightness of 4,500 to 5,500 nits, but the detail that decides its lifespan is drainage: sealed cable entries pointing downwards, drip paths that do not lead water into the frame, and no cavity where meltwater can stand and then freeze. We also set a winter behaviour deliberately, because a screen at full output against low cloud in December is both wasteful and dazzling.

Survey, fitting and the call-out that follows
Varaždin is 220 road kilometres from our workshop in Győr. A crew leaving early is on site well before mid-morning, which means a survey, a straightforward fitting or a fault visit are all single-day operations with no overnight cost attached. That is the practical reason we are comfortable quoting fixed service response for this city. Where an installation needs a platform, a road closure or scaffolding, we book the access equipment locally and plan the day around its arrival rather than around ours. Delivery includes reserve tiles from the same production batch, the warranty runs for one or two years depending on what is agreed, and the travel and the crew allowance are shown as their own lines on a cross-border quotation rather than being folded into the price of the wall.
