What follows describes a permanently installed LED display for an address in Bjelovar: the way the module grid fixes the finished dimensions, the pitch that belongs to a long interior sightline, the difference between a sealed exterior build and an indoor one, the rolling LED poster as the option that needs no installation at all, and how the signal and the service are organised. LED wall in Bjelovar — manufacturing, installation, quote
Bjelovar was laid out as a planned military town, and it still shows: a regular grid, wide approaches and Trg Eugena Kvaternika, one of the largest squares in the country, sitting in the middle of a settlement of roughly 36,300 people. That combination produces an unusual brief for a fixed display. Interior spaces are generous, sightlines in the public buildings and halls are long, and the employers who buy screens here are as likely to be food and agricultural businesses such as Sirela or Koestlin as they are to be retailers. The screens we build for this county seat are therefore mostly indoor, mostly large, and mostly read from a distance that would be unusual in a coastal town.
The module grid and the finished dimension
Widths in steps of 32 centimetres, heights in steps of 16
The building block is a single landscape module measuring 32 centimetres by 16. It is never turned on its side, so a finished picture is always some whole number of those bricks: widths advance in 32 centimetre steps, heights in 16 centimetre steps. That is why we ask for the opening rather than for a diagonal in inches. A worked example makes the point. A hall wall offering 5.12 metres of clear width takes sixteen modules; a picture height of 2.88 metres takes eighteen rows. Change the requirement to 5 metres exactly and the answer is still 4.8 metres of picture, with the balance becoming surround. Nothing about this is negotiable, and knowing it early prevents a design that cannot be built.
Pixel pitch against the real sightline
The front row decides, and in a hall the front row is far back
Pitch is selected from the closest position anyone will regularly occupy. In a municipal hall or a company canteen, that position is often eight or ten metres from the surface, which places the job squarely in the P2.5 to P4 band. Closer work, such as a display behind a counter or beside a reception desk where visitors stand within two metres, calls for P1.5 to P2.5. A screen on a forecourt or above a yard entrance, read from twenty metres or more, is properly served by P4 to P8. The economics run in the customer's favour here. Because Bjelovar interiors tend to be deep, many buyers who assume they need a fine pitch turn out to need a coarser one, and the saving on a wall of any size is substantial. We would rather demonstrate that at survey stage than sell an expensive specification nobody can see the benefit of.
Indoor halls and outdoor forecourts
Two builds, two brightness figures, one common error
An interior display runs at 700 to 800 nits and is designed for a controlled light level. An exterior display is sealed to IP65 against rain, dust and washing down, and is driven at 4,500 to 5,500 nits so it holds an image in open daylight. The construction, the power draw and the price differ accordingly. The error we correct most often is a display placed just inside a large glazed entrance and specified as an interior unit. Between the reflection off the glass and the daylight behind the viewer, it will disappoint for most of the year. Anywhere strong daylight reaches the surface, the exterior specification is the honest choice regardless of whether rain ever touches it.
The rolling LED poster, and the five-panel wall it can grow into
From one upright panel to 320 by 192 centimetres
Not every requirement justifies fixing anything to a building. The LED poster is an upright digital placard on a wheeled base that the customer pushes into position and connects to a socket. Nobody hires access equipment for it, nobody drills a facade, and no structural assessment is required, because the load sits on your floor rather than on your wall. What makes it more than a substitute for a printed sheet is that the units chain. The configuration customers settle on most often is five panels driven as a single surface: five times 64 centimetres gives 320 centimetres of width against 192 centimetres of height, close to a 16:9 video wall, and it peaks at around 4 kilowatts, which is a manageable load for an existing distribution board in an exhibition hall or a foyer. The important consequence is commercial rather than technical. You are not obliged to decide the final size on day one. A single unit at a trade counter can become a five-panel wall for the fair season two years later, using the same frames and the same controllers, and any panel can be pulled out and used on its own again afterwards.
Signal, scheduling and the network
Live input, timed playlist, and no data run to the screen
The controller takes a live HDMI feed when something has to be shown as it happens, and it also plays scheduled material loaded over the network or from a USB stick. Most installations use both: a fixed daily programme with the ability to switch to a live source when there is a reason to. Crucially the controller is reachable over Wi-Fi as well as by cable. In a production building where a data run would mean a cable tray across a hall, or in an older public building where nothing may be chased into a wall, that removes the largest single installation cost. The screen needs a mains supply where it hangs; the content can arrive wirelessly.
Survey, delivery and service across 267 kilometres
One working day out, and spares that stay with you
At 267 kilometres a Bjelovar address is comfortably within a single day's reach of the works, so a survey visit and, later, an installation day are each planned as one journey with an early start. We measure the opening, check the substrate we will be fixing to, note the supply and stand where the audience will stand. For a foreign installation the travel and any subsistence are set out as their own lines in the quotation, separately from the price of the display, so the cost of getting there is visible and comparable. Warranty is one or two years according to specification, and spare modules travel with the consignment and stay on your shelf. That way a single faulty tile is a local job with a screwdriver rather than a wait for a vehicle.
