Velenje is a planned town built around coal and manufacturing, and both still define its year. The mine and the appliance industry that grew up beside it generate the internal events that fill the calendar: safety briefings, long-service awards, apprentice ceremonies and supplier days, held in works canteens, training centres and the town's own cultural hall rather than in commercial venues. Against that sits a genuinely public strand, with the Pika festival for children each September, the summer programme by the lake formed from the subsided mine workings, and the castle above the town used for cultural evenings. The stocked unit is a P2 indoor LED poster: 2 millimetres between pixels, 320 by 960 of them across a face 64 centimetres wide and 192 tall. It stands unsupported, draws from a normal wall socket and involves no truss, no ballast and no hanging hardware whatsoever. The same face comes in four other specifications. The P1.5 GOB packs the pixels tighter for a surface somebody reads at arm's length in a training centre. The P2.5 spreads them wider and is the economical pick for a big hall where the first row sits well back. Two further versions are built into weatherproof cabinets — an outdoor P2.5 and an outdoor P3 — and those are the ones that go by the lake or up to the castle without needing a tent over them. Two people carry an indoor panel through a doorway and into a lift, which is why a works training centre or a school hall is as workable for us as a conference suite. What comes off the van is panels and feet, the player and the controller; what we do on arrival is stand it up, connect it, set the picture and hand it to your staff.

712 kilometres of return journey
Driving to Velenje and back is 712 kilometres, billed at 50 cents net a kilometre, so 356 EUR net on a single-day job. Each panel is 75 EUR net for each day of the hire where the panel is the stocked indoor P2; the four other versions are quoted individually, and the driving line is the same whichever of them travels. Working that through, net of tax: one panel for a day 431 EUR, two 506 EUR, three 581 EUR, five 731 EUR. Take three panels for two days and it becomes 1,162 EUR, because a longer hire needs the van to come out once and return once again later; five panels over two days reach 1,462 EUR. Leaving one of our people with the set adds 63 EUR net per day.

Take the smallest case. One panel for a single Velenje evening is 431 EUR net, of which 356 EUR never touches the screen at all: it is the road. A supplier an hour away will do that job for less, and pretending otherwise would waste your afternoon. Our numbers get interesting elsewhere. Over several days the two journeys are spread thin. On five panels the hire itself dominates. And when a Velenje company is presenting in Hungary, whether at a fair in Budapest or a partner site near the border, the same panels turn up with the travel line collapsed to a fraction of this.
