Rijeka sits halfway along our Croatian route: 471 kilometres from the workshop, close enough for a planned single overnight and too far for a casual day trip. With around 108,000 residents it is a working port before it is anything else, and that shows in every technical decision, from the cranes and cargo handling along the basin to the constant salt-laden breeze and, above all, the bura, the dry north-easterly that arrives in gusts strong enough to make wind load rather than picture quality the first line of a specification. Above the harbour the ground climbs steeply towards Trsat, which creates long open sightlines a well-placed screen can exploit.
Measure the facade and assess the wind exposure first
The bura decides the structure
Before anything is drawn we record the wall build-up, the fixing points available and the exposure of the position. North-easterly gusts load a large flat surface heavily and a screen is exactly that, so the structure is calculated for gusts rather than average wind speed, with anchors chosen after test drillings instead of from an assumption. Corner positions, rooftops and anything on the slopes towards Trsat are treated as exposed by default, which usually means a heavier frame and more anchor points than an inland equivalent.
Set the dimensions on the 32 by 16 centimetre grid
Why the size is not a free choice
Modules are fitted in landscape orientation only, 32 centimetres wide and 16 centimetres high. Consequently the width of a wall is a multiple of 32 and its height a multiple of 16, and a drawing asking for anything else has to be adjusted before production starts. A 5.12 by 2.88 metre screen, for example, is sixteen modules across and eighteen down. Where a building opening does not divide neatly, the difference is absorbed by the frame or by a recess, and both variants are presented before you decide.
Choose the pitch from the longest sightline
Korzo at three metres, Rujevica at thirty
Pick the pitch by asking where the furthest important viewer stands. A screen in a shop window on the Korzo, read by pedestrians a couple of metres away, needs 1.5 to 2.5 millimetres between pixels. A concourse or a mall interior read from five to ten metres works comfortably at 2.5 to 4. A wall serving a car park, a stadium approach such as Rujevica or a road frontage is read from well beyond twenty metres and can sit at 4 to 8, where the money saved per square metre is better spent on the mounting and the electrical work.
Specify the enclosure for a humid, salty port climate
IP65 and the details around it
Outdoor cabinets are sealed to IP65 and run at 4,500 to 5,500 nit; indoor panels sit at 700 to 800. In a port city the specification then continues past the rating: stainless fixings, corrosion-resistant brackets, cable glands that stay sealed after being opened, and service access that does not require breaking a gasket. Damp air combined with salt gets into connectors long before it troubles the panel face, so connectors and their orientation receive more attention here than they would inland.
Take the rolling LED poster seriously before you commit to a facade
A display your own staff set up, and how the picture reaches it
Where a fitted screen needs a survey journey and then a separate build journey, the LED poster needs neither. It is an upright digital display standing on a castor base, delivered ready to work, and the shop or hotel staff bring it upright and connect it to an ordinary socket. That matters at 471 kilometres: the week the pallet arrives, the picture is already running on the Korzo or inside the Tower Center Rijeka concourse. Its built-in controller accepts both Wi-Fi and a UTP network lead, so a playlist can be pushed from an office without anyone opening a ceiling, and the audio port on the same controller lets the unit carry sound where the room allows it.

At this range a visit is planned rather than improvised: the survey is a day with an overnight stay, the installation is scheduled as a block, and service calls are grouped with other work on the coast so that the travel cost is shared. Those items appear as their own entries in the offer, with the kilometres stated, and they are never folded into the price per square metre. Reserve modules from the same batch travel with the wall, so a first fault need not wait for a van.
