Nova Gorica is a town built after 1947 on the Slovenian side of a border that cut through an older city, and its recent history has been about erasing that line rather than defending it. Together with Gorizia across the square it held the title of European Capital of Culture in 2025, a joint programme that put events on both sides of a frontier which now exists only on maps. The town's economy leans on the casino and hotel complex, on the Vipava valley wine trade to the east, and on cross-border services. Event venues are correspondingly modern: conference rooms in the hotels, the cultural centre, and a good deal of activity in the open square that straddles the two countries. Nova Gorica is 516 road kilometres from our depot in Győr, about six hours of driving through Slovenia.

The drive runs west across Hungary and the length of Slovenia, roughly six hours in each direction. Neither the Hungarian nor the Slovenian border requires a stop, and the Italian frontier at the edge of town is equally open, so a venue on either side of the square is the same job to us logistically. Euro pricing applies throughout, which removes the last piece of friction. Because of the distance we travel the day before an early start rather than overnight, and we settle the loading window with the venue at quotation stage rather than on the morning.

Transport comes to 516 EUR net for a one-day booking. Panels are 75 EUR net each per day on top of that where the panel is the stocked indoor P2; take a different build and only that line is rewritten, against the same distance-based transport terms. Indicative net totals: one panel for a day 591 EUR, three panels 741 EUR, five panels 891 EUR. Two days with three panels come to 1,482 EUR and with five panels to 1,782 EUR, because a multi-day hire needs the van out and back twice. Somebody of ours remaining at the screen is 63 EUR net per person daily. Where the venue cannot offer a loading space and a hand, there is a single 88 EUR net addition.

Cross-border programmes and Hungarian dates
At 516 EUR of driving, a one-panel single-day booking here is not a job we would expect to win against a supplier in Ljubljana or across the border in Friuli. That is simply what six hours of road costs. Where the argument changes is on programmes that already cross borders, which is much of what this town does. A festival with dates in several countries, a company with sites in Hungary and Slovenia, or an event series that runs for a week all favour one supplier and one set of equipment. And when the Hungarian date is the anchor, our travel line collapses to a fraction of what appears here.

What the indoor rating means on the square
The indoor part of the fleet — P1.5, P2 and P2.5 — is built for interiors. The fine pitch is what makes the surface readable from a metre and a half, and the trade is that these housings are not sealed against weather, so a marquee, a roofed stage or a hotel conference room is where they belong. That would be a hard limit in a town whose signature space is an open square straddling two countries, if it were the whole story. It is not. The outdoor versions are cabinet-built and sealed, at P2.5 for an audience that stands close and P3 for a large surface seen from further back, and they are part of the hire fleet rather than only of the production range. So a programme on the square is a question of which construction we quote, not of whether we can quote at all.
