Piran is a Venetian town on a narrow headland, and almost everything about hiring equipment into it follows from that geography. The centre is closed to cars, the streets are stairs and alleys, and the main open space is Tartini Square, named after the composer born on it. The event calendar is cultural and seasonal: concerts and festivals through the summer, a steady tourist programme, and a smaller run of conferences using the hotel capacity in Portorož next door and the facilities around the Sečovlje salt pans. Business events here are boutique rather than large, and the venues are historic interiors, hotel rooms and covered terraces. Nothing gets rigged from a fifteenth-century ceiling. Piran is 530 road kilometres from our depot in Győr, roughly six hours across Slovenia, with no border formality and no currency change on the route.

How Tartini Square changes the specification
The indoor panels are the fine-pitch half of the fleet. A 2 millimetre spacing, or closer on the P1.5, makes the surface readable from a metre and a half, and it is bought at the cost of any weather sealing, so those units stay dry and out of direct sun. In Piran that decides more than anywhere else on this site, because so much of the programme happens on the square and along the waterfront. A covered terrace, a marquee, a church hall or a hotel room in Portorož are all indoor positions. The square itself is not — and that is the job of the outdoor cabinets, sealed at P2.5 and P3 and bright enough to hold a picture in coastal daylight. They come out of the same hire fleet, on an individually agreed price, so a summer concert on Tartini Square is a question of specifying early rather than of finding a different supplier.
Reaching a town without roads
Six hours of driving, then the last stretch on foot
The route from Győr runs the length of Slovenia and takes roughly six hours, entirely within Schengen and entirely in euro territory, so neither customs nor currency enters the planning. The interesting part is the final two hundred metres. Vehicles stop at the edge of the historic centre, so panels are carried in by hand, two people to a unit, along a route agreed with the venue before we quote rather than discovered on the day. This is precisely the situation the format was chosen for: there is no truss to wheel in and no flight case that needs a loading bay.

1,060 kilometres out and back
Transport works out at 530 EUR net for a single-day hire, being the return route at 50 cents net a kilometre. Each panel is 75 EUR net for each day, which is the list rate of the indoor P2; a booking on the P1.5, the P2.5 or an outdoor cabinet keeps every other line and carries its own panel figure. Guide totals, net of tax: one panel for a day 605 EUR; three panels 755 EUR; five panels 905 EUR. Take three panels over two days and the figure is 1,510 EUR, or 1,810 EUR for five, because delivery and collection become separate journeys once a hire passes one day. A technician kept with the set is 63 EUR net per person daily.
Whether the drive is worth it
A frank look at 530 EUR of transport
One panel for one Piran day comes to 605 EUR net, and 530 EUR of that has nothing to do with the screen. Suppliers in Koper, Ljubljana or across the Italian border in Trieste are all closer, and for a single evening with one surface they will be cheaper. We make sense on longer bookings, where the two journeys spread across a festival week; on larger sets, where the panel rate carries most of the total; and when a coastal company holds its event in Hungary, which turns our transport line from the largest number on the quote into the smallest.
