Follow these steps and you will arrive at a specification that fits the building rather than the brochure: establish where the surface will be read from, convert that into a pitch, convert the available space into buildable dimensions, decide between a mounted wall and a rolling poster that can be extended later, settle the signal route, and read the travel arithmetic that 307 kilometres produces — a distance that makes this one of the nearest foreign towns we serve, closer than several of the Austrian ones.

Slovenska Bistrica is a manufacturing town first and a market town second, and the proportions matter when a display is being specified. Impol, the aluminium producer on Partizanska ulica, dominates the local economy and the local working day; the rail junction at Pragersko, where the Ljubljana–Maribor main line meets the branch towards Čakovec, sits inside the same municipality; the A1 runs past the town on its way from Maribor towards Celje and Ljubljana. Against that, the civic centre is compact and coherent — Trg svobode with the Josip Vošnjak library at number 16, the castle a short walk away on Grajska ulica with its Baroque Knights' Hall, the parish church of Saint Bartholomew, and the wooded slopes of Pohorje closing the view to the north. For most businesses here the audience that repays a screen is internal and repeat rather than passing and anonymous, and the specification should follow that fact rather than fight it.

Measure the reading distances before you price anything

Write down the nearest point and the furthest, then stop

Go to the intended position and take two measurements: the closest point at which somebody will genuinely examine the picture, and the furthest point from which it must still be legible. Those two numbers determine more of the specification than the budget does. A visitor at a reception counter inspects from around a metre and a half, and at that range the tile has to be fine enough that the image does not resolve into separate points — P1.5 to P2.5. A training room or a canteen read across five to twelve metres is comfortable between P2.5 and P4. A production hall changes the answer completely. Read down the length of a bay at twenty or thirty metres, a surface is well served anywhere in the P4 to P8 range, and a finer tile buys detail that physically cannot be resolved from where anyone stands. This is the single most expensive mistake in the category: a fine pitch chosen because it looked superb in a demonstration viewed from two metres, then installed in a room where nobody is ever closer than fifteen. Take the two measurements first and let them decide.

Convert the opening into column and row counts

Multiples of 32 across, multiples of 16 up

Every module goes on the same way round, 32 centimetres wide by 16 centimetres tall, and cannot be cut or partially fitted. So take the width available and divide by 32; take the height and divide by 16; discard the remainders. Eleven columns by six rows produces 3.52 by 0.96 metres — a long, low shape that suits a run of wall above a counter or a corridor. Four columns by thirteen rows produces 1.28 by 2.08 metres, a portrait format for a lobby. Work this out before the builder finishes, not afterwards. A recess formed at 3.60 metres will not take a 3.60-metre picture, because 360 is not divisible by 32; you build 3.52 and let the frame absorb the difference, or you open the space to 3.84. Send us the aperture and how much you can give in each direction and we will return every buildable size inside it, each with its column and row count, its weight and its current demand — the last being the number your electrician will ask for on the first day.

Choose between a mounted wall and a poster you can extend

The LED poster stands on a wheeled base and is not attached to the building, which removes the scaffold, the access platform, the structural opinion and the making good. What is less widely understood is that the posters chain: their controllers can be linked so that two, three or more units are driven as one continuous image rather than as separate screens showing the same loop. That changes how you can buy. It means you need not decide the final size at the outset. Start with a single unit at a reception desk or a showroom entrance, live with it for a season, and add a second and a third when you know what the content actually needs. The arrangement can be a wide horizontal band across a foyer wall, a pair flanking a doorway, or a row down one side of an exhibition space, and any of those can be reconfigured on a Tuesday afternoon because nothing is fixed. For a business in the Impol supply chain running an annual customer day, or a car dealer on the approach road, that ability to grow the surface in step with the need is worth more than a larger screen bought once and regretted.

Settle the signal route before the wall is built

Live input, scheduled playback, and the wireless option that saves a trench

Two routes exist and most installations use both. A live input over HDMI puts a source straight onto the surface as it happens: a production dashboard, a camera, a laptop at a supplier presentation, a queue system. Scheduled playback is the other mode — a playlist held in the controller and driven by a timetable, changing at the hours you set, requiring nobody's attention on an ordinary day. The controller will join a wireless network as well as a wired one, and in an industrial building that is frequently the deciding detail. Getting a data cable from an office to a screen on the far wall of a hall can mean a duct, a cable tray across a working bay or a trench across a yard, with a bill that occasionally exceeds the display itself. Over Wi-Fi the position needs a power feed and nothing more. Where a wired path already exists we still recommend using it, because it never drops; but the wireless option means an awkward position is no longer an expensive one, and that is often what makes the second and third screen affordable.

Read the travel lines and compare them honestly

307 kilometres, and why that is nearer than it sounds

Slovenska Bistrica is 307 road kilometres from our works in Győr — a shorter run than several of the Austrian towns on our list, and close enough that a survey is a long day rather than an overnight trip. That has practical consequences you should be able to see on the quotation. A single-day attendance for a survey or a service call is realistic here in a way it is not at four hundred kilometres and beyond, and the accommodation line that dominates our more distant jobs frequently disappears altogether. We quote travel, mobilisation and subsistence as separate lines rather than folding them into a price per square metre, on the original installation and on anything afterwards, so you can weigh them and challenge them. Warranty is one or two years according to the specification agreed. Spare modules and a spare power supply come with the delivery and stay in your building, which at this distance is less about emergencies and more about not paying for a journey to perform a fifteen-minute swap that your own maintenance electrician can do while we watch on a video call.

Plan the first year of content before you sign anything

Who writes it, how often, and what happens when they leave

A LED surface is a publishing commitment, and the installations that disappoint are almost never the ones that failed technically. They are the ones where nobody was made responsible for the content. Before ordering, answer three questions in writing: who produces the material, how often it changes, and who takes over when that person moves on. If the honest answer is that nobody has time, buy a smaller screen and a scheduled loop that does not need weekly attention — that is a legitimate design decision, not a failure. In an industrial setting the sustainable content is usually the content that generates itself. Output against target, order status, the count of days since the last incident, shift rotas, canteen menus and safety notices can all be fed automatically from systems already in use, and automatic content does not go stale when somebody is on leave. Reserve the hand-made material for the few occasions that deserve it — a customer visit, an anniversary, a recruitment push — and the display stays credible instead of gradually turning into a wall showing last spring's news.
