A scrolling text display in Krško very often ends up somewhere that is not an ordinary shop window: a gatehouse in the Videm zone, a contractor reception, a workshop entrance, a canteen, a laboratory corridor. Those positions come with a condition that changes the whole specification, and it is not weather or brightness. It is connectivity. On a controlled site the assumption that a board simply joins the wireless network and is updated from a telephone is wrong, and a supplier who has not asked about it will deliver equipment that cannot legitimately be commissioned. Why is connectivity the first question on a controlled site?

Most text-board specifications begin with size and end with the network. On a site with its own information-security regime, that order produces equipment that has to be sent back. Whether a device may join a corporate network, whether it may carry a wireless radio at all, whether a removable stick may be inserted into it, and who is permitted to configure it are questions with answers already written down somewhere in the organisation, and those answers narrow the hardware choice immediately. So we ask them at the enquiry. The controller we fit accepts content over Wi-Fi, over a UTP cable and from a USB stick, and each of those three routes can be disabled. Being able to demonstrate that a radio is physically absent or permanently disabled is sometimes the difference between an installation being approved and being refused, and it costs nothing if it is specified before manufacture.
What can a board show when it may not touch your systems?
More than clients expect, provided the schedule is thought through
A display that is entirely offline is not a display that shows one fixed sentence. The controller stores a schedule: a library of items with validity dates, times of day and a repetition order, loaded once from a stick or from an isolated laptop. A month of shift information, planned maintenance windows, canteen notices and safety reminders can all be prepared in advance and will run without any connection whatever. What an offline board cannot do is reflect something that changes minute by minute, which is exactly why the distinction matters. If the content genuinely has to track a live system - a queue, a production count, a status - that requirement drives an entirely different and more involved installation, and it has to be raised at the start. In our experience most positions on an industrial site want the first kind and are quoted, wrongly, for the second.
Which messages earn a place in front of a shift change?
Short, consequential, and owned by somebody
A board at a works entrance is read by the same people twice a day, every day, which means it stops being seen unless what it says has consequences. The content that survives this is operational: today's assembly point, the contractor number to call, a lane closure in the yard, a diversion on the approach from Leskovec pri Krškem, a changed collection time, the date the next shutdown period begins. The content that does not survive is generic encouragement, which people learn to ignore within a fortnight. Attach a name to every item and a date on which it is removed. The failure mode on industrial sites is not a blank board; it is a board still displaying a notice about an event that happened in March. One person with the authority to write items and one deputy is the arrangement that works. Two people is deliberate: one person means the board freezes whenever they are on leave.
How is a display commissioned when access is granted for two hours?
Everything that can be done off site is done off site
Where a permit gives a fixed window on a fixed morning, the installation has to be a matter of mounting and connecting rather than of configuring. We assemble, configure, load the schedule and run the board for a full working day at our premises first, so what arrives is a tested unit with its settings already in it. The bracket positions are agreed from survey photographs and measurements, the cable route is decided in advance, and the fixings are brought in more than one pattern because a substrate is not always what a drawing says. The handover is compressed into the same window, so it is prepared as a written sheet rather than as a demonstration: the item list, the schedule, the access method, the driver types, the isolation point, and how a module is exchanged. One of your people signs it. That sheet is what allows a different person, two years later and under a different contractor, to maintain the board without contacting us at all.
How is legibility kept in a hall lit to industrial levels?

A text board indoors, whether in a hall at Videm or in an office on Cesta krških žrtev, runs at 700 to 800 nits, which is ample in an office and marginal under high-bay lighting aimed straight down onto a glossy front face. The problem in a hall is rarely the board's output; it is reflection and the angle of view. Mounting the unit with a slight downward tilt, keeping it out of the direct cone of the nearest luminaire, and choosing a position where nobody reads it from an acute angle solves more than increasing brightness does. Dust is the second factor and the more insidious. A film on the face reduces apparent contrast gradually enough that nobody notices until the board is genuinely hard to read. Put a cleaning interval in the maintenance schedule, choose a mounting height that a person can reach, and check the reading at the far end of the hall rather than from directly underneath, which is the one position from which every board looks acceptable.
What can be repaired locally, 367 kilometres from the workshop?
Nearly everything, if the delivery was specified properly
The distance from our works to Krško is 367 kilometres, which for service purposes should be irrelevant, and with the right preparation it is. Spare modules travel with the original delivery, the panel construction allows a module to be exchanged without dismantling the board, and the driver types and settings are listed on the handover sheet. A site electrician with that sheet and the spares in a drawer resolves the common faults in under an hour. What cannot be done remotely is diagnosis on a site where photographs are restricted, which is worth planning for. Agree in advance what description of a fault may leave the site and to whom, so that a fault report is not blocked by a rule nobody thought about. Where a controller has to be replaced, it is posted and swapped in place. A vehicle from Győr is the last option rather than the first, and travel is quoted as its own line whenever it is genuinely required.
