What follows is a working brief for a Vrhnika client considering a fixed LED surface: how the reading distance settles the pixel pitch before anything else is priced, why the finished dimensions fall out of a 32-by-16-centimetre grid instead of a tape measure, what changes when the picture faces the afternoon sun on a street frontage, when a wheeled LED poster removes the installation question entirely, how the signal reaches the panel without a cable trench across a yard, and which separate lines the 433-kilometre road distance from our Győr works puts on a quotation.

LED wall in Vrhnika — manufacturing, installation, quote

Vrhnika lies twenty-one kilometres down the old Trieste road from Ljubljana, and that one fact governs almost every display decision taken here. Under nine thousand people live in the town proper; the municipality adds several thousand more across Verd, Sinja Gorica and the settlements under Ulovka and Ljubljanski vrh. A large share of the working population joins the A1 at the Vrhnika ramp each morning and leaves its retail spending in Ljubljana. What stays behind is not weak, but it is specific: the plants and workshops in the Tojnice and Sinja Gorica zones, a precision moulder such as Siliko on Tržaška cesta, the waste-treatment operation at Kemis, the schools, the health centre and a compact civic core around Cankarjev trg. A permanent LED surface here is therefore paid for by residents, employees and visitors who have already arrived, never by drivers heading for the motorway.

Reading distance as the first specification

From a library counter to the far end of a workshop bay

Pixel pitch is a match to a distance, not a grade of quality, and the number in front of the P is the gap in millimetres between neighbouring lamps. A visitor standing at the issue desk of Cankarjeva knjižnica, at Tržaška cesta 32, reads from about a metre and a half; at that range anything coarser than P2.5 stops being an image and becomes a field of separate dots. An audience seated in the hall at Cankarjev dom is between six and fifteen metres from the stage wall, where P2.5 to P4 gives a clean picture and a finer tile only raises the invoice. Outside the numbers move again. A yard gate in Tojnice, read by a driver thirty or forty metres away who has perhaps four seconds to take in a bay number, is properly served anywhere in the P4 to P8 band; buying P2.5 for that position spends money on detail the eye cannot resolve at the distance it is viewed from. Write down the nearest and the furthest point from which the surface will genuinely be read, send us those two figures, and the specification follows from them rather than from a showroom demonstration seen at arm's length.

Whole columns, whole rows, nothing cut down

Every module is mounted the same way round: 32 centimetres across, 16 centimetres tall. A surface is assembled as a whole number of columns and a whole number of rows, and its finished measurements are simply those counts multiplied out. Nine columns by ten rows produces 2.88 by 1.60 metres. Twelve by nine produces 3.84 by 1.44. There is no intermediate size, and a module cannot be trimmed to make one. This catches people out when an architect has drawn a recess to a round number. A niche detailed at 3.00 metres wide will not take a screen 3.00 metres wide, because 300 does not divide by 32; the honest options are 2.88 metres with the difference absorbed in the frame and the reveal, or 3.20 metres and a wider opening. Send us the aperture with the tolerance you can live with, in both directions, and we will send back every permitted size inside it together with its column and row count, its mass and the current it draws — the last of which your electrician will want before anything is ordered.

Sealed construction, high operating brightness, and dimming after dark

An indoor panel and an outdoor panel are different products, not the same product with a setting changed. Outdoor construction is sealed to IP65 against driving rain and the mist that sits over the Ljubljanica meadows on autumn mornings, and it runs at 4,500 to 5,500 nits so the picture holds up when low sun strikes the face of the cabinet directly. That is many times what a foyer screen produces, and it is the reason the two cost differently. The same brightness that wins at two in the afternoon is intolerable at ten at night in a residential street, which is why an ambient sensor and a scheduled dimming curve are part of the specification rather than an extra. On a mixed frontage along Tržaška cesta, where flats sit above shops, the night level is usually the setting that decides whether the neighbours ever complain. Agree it during the survey, set it during commissioning, and record it in the handover documents so nobody quietly turns it back up six months later.

The wheeled LED poster as an alternative to building anything

A 640 by 1,920 millimetre picture on a 201-centimetre frame, 45 kilograms

The poster is a portrait digital placard on a rolling base. Its picture area measures 640 by 1,920 millimetres, the frame stands 201 centimetres tall, and the unit weighs 45 kilograms — one person can move it on the castors, two can lift it into a lift. There is no bracket, no scaffold tower, no cherry picker and no structural opinion required, because nothing is fixed to the building. You roll it to the spot, plug it into an ordinary socket, and it works. At 433 kilometres that distinction is worth real money. A fixed wall in Vrhnika means a survey trip, a preparation day, overnight accommodation for the fitting crew and a two-day installation window scheduled around our other work. A poster is crated, freighted and switched on by your own staff in the same week you order it. For the pharmacy window, the bank branch lobby or the reception desk of a hotel on Tržaška cesta — anywhere that currently prints a new A0 sheet every fortnight and tapes it to the glass — the comparison is not really between two screens. It is between a screen and a print bill that never ends.

Signal paths, and the cable you do not have to lay

Live HDMI, scheduled playback, and a wireless route where trenching is impossible

There are two ways to feed the surface and most sites use both. An HDMI input takes a live source — a laptop at a presentation, a camera, a till system, a dashboard from your own network — and puts it on the wall in real time. The alternative is scheduled playback: a playlist loaded over the local network or from a USB stick, running to a timetable, changing itself at the hours you set without anyone touching it. The controller can also join a wireless network, which matters more than it sounds. In an older building on Stara cesta, or where the screen ends up on the far side of a yard from the office, running a data cable means a duct, a trench or a chased wall — a fortnight of builder's work and a bill that can rival the display. Over Wi-Fi the panel needs only a power feed at its position. We still recommend a wired link where one already exists or can be pulled easily, simply because it never drops; but the wireless route means an awkward position is no longer an expensive one.

Survey, mobilisation, subsistence, and the spares that travel in the crate

Vrhnika is 433 road kilometres from our works in Győr, which is a full driving day in each direction with a loaded van. We do not hide that in the square-metre price. Travel, the preparation day, the crew's accommodation and the per-diem allowance appear as their own lines on the quotation, so you can see them, question them and compare them against another supplier's figures instead of guessing what is buried in a total. Where several jobs in the Ljubljana basin can be grouped into one trip, the travel line drops for everyone concerned, and we will say so if that is on the cards. The warranty runs for one or two years depending on the specification agreed. Every shipment includes spare modules and a spare power supply, held on your site rather than ours, precisely because of the distance. A single dead module then becomes a fifteen-minute swap by your own maintenance man under our guidance on the phone — the front face releases without dismantling the surrounding surface — instead of a screen left dark for a fortnight while a part travels across two borders.
