Arithmetic comes before design
Every wall we build is assembled from one module, and that module is always mounted the same way round: 32 centimetres across, 16 centimetres tall. The finished width is therefore a multiple of 32 centimetres and the finished height a multiple of 16. A niche measured at four metres by two and a quarter becomes twelve modules by fourteen, which is 3.84 by 2.24 metres, and the remaining sixteen centimetres of width has to be absorbed by the frame or the reveal. Two very different figures
