A wedding is not one mood but four in a row: ceremony, reception, dinner, dancing into the small hours. Illuminated furniture suits it because the same piece takes a different role in each of the four. In the afternoon it is somewhere to put a champagne glass down, after dark it is the background to the photographs, and after midnight it is the refuge of whoever needs to catch their breath. And since no cable runs to it, nothing catches the train of the bride's dress.
A wedding is worth furnishing in three zones: illuminated standing tables for the reception hour after the ceremony, seated tables for dinner, and a lounge corner plus a counter beside the dancing. Because the light comes from the furniture itself and runs on a battery, there is no socket to hunt for in a country-house courtyard or out on a meadow. The hour between the ceremony and the dinner
After the ceremony comes the most awkward stretch of the day: the photographer takes the couple away, and the guests stand there with a glass in hand and nowhere to put it down. This is exactly what standing tables are for. Divide the reception area with eight to ten tall tables and the company arranges itself around them, instead of one shapeless crowd piling up at the entrance. Height is what really matters here. A cocktail table of around 110 cm is cut for standing: a guest leans on it, puts the glass down and stays at eye level with whoever they are talking to. A standing table with an ice bucket earns its place twice over in the same row, because the champagne does not go warm before the next round of service. If there is a welcome drink, this piece usually draws half the guests to it.
Dinner, then dancing: the same room twice
At dinner the lit tabletop is not the star but the base of the setting: instead of a white cloth, the table itself gives the light, and the candles and flowers sit on top of that. A round top comfortably takes four or five place settings, while the square pieces line up side by side for a long banquet layout. After the first dance the room changes. Some of the chairs go back against the wall, and a few seats at the edge of the floor are welcome for those who stop between numbers. This is where it pays off that the furniture can be pulled aside mid-event, because nothing holds it in place. A counter in the corner of the dance floor solves the other problem: the guests stop heading for the kitchen when they want a drink.
Blue hour: when the furniture gets into the pictures
For a photographer the most valuable twenty or thirty minutes are the ones when the sun has gone but the sky is still deep blue. Artificial light and natural background carry equal weight then, and a body lit from within appears in the shot as a shape rather than a blinding point: it does not burn into the lens the way a floodlight does. If you are planning outdoor couple photographs, it is worth putting two or three pieces into the chosen background during the afternoon, so nobody has to carry them in the dark. Of the seven available shades the cooler ones give a more neutral skin tone, while a saturated red or green shows on the guests' faces as well. This is worth discussing with the photographer in advance, because it is hard to correct the colour afterwards. Most of the guests' own phone photographs are taken at this hour too, so the background works twice.
In a garden, a country-house courtyard, a marquee
Half of all outdoor wedding venues were never built for events: a country-house park, a press-house courtyard, a lakeside meadow or a large private garden. Power is the bottleneck in all of them, and the usual answer is a generator and tens of metres of cable, covered with matting under the guests' feet. With battery-powered furniture that whole chain simply disappears. The weather is the other constant question. The polyethylene body is protected against splashing water, rated IP54, so a summer shower, morning dew or spilt champagne does no harm and you will not find soaked upholstery in the morning. What it cannot take is standing water, so even by a lake it belongs on the bank. On fresh, soft turf, look for a level patch, because any furniture sinks in there.
Take a wedding of 80 guests. At the reception after the ceremony, 3–4 guests fit comfortably around a Ø80 cm cocktail table, but never everyone is at a table at once, so 12–15 pieces is plenty — not twenty-five. For dinner, count 4–5 place settings per Ø100 cm table, which means 16–20 tables to seat everybody. Put two or three lounge groups beside the dance floor, each taking 3–5 people, which gives 8–15 places to rest. Finally, check it on the floor plan: the furniture should cover 20–30 per cent of the floor, and the rest should stay free for dancing and service.

How far in advance should we enquire?
As early as you can, because the Saturdays from spring to autumn fill up first. Send us the date and the venue, we will check what is free for that day and reply in writing with the terms. Nothing is booked until we have come back to you, and until then nothing binds you.
Which colour should we choose for dinner and which for the party?
During dinner the warm, calm tones usually work, because they do not pull attention away from the table. When the dancing starts it is worth switching to something livelier, and since the switch is made by remote control the whole room turns at once, with no decorator involved. One remote is enough for the whole set — you do not have to walk the room piece by piece.
Can the cake go on an illuminated table?
Load capacity is 150–200 kg depending on the model, so the weight of a cake is not the issue. What to bear in mind is that the light comes from below, so a pale-iced cake picks up the colour. For a neutral result choose the faintest setting, or switch it off while the cake is cut.
The reception runs until four in the morning — will the light last?
One charge gives 6–8 hours of light according to the manufacturer, depending on the colour. Switch it on at dusk and it lasts into the hours after midnight. For the very end, either plan spares for the important points or accept that by then the furniture is only furniture, not a light source.
Can we project our monogram onto it?
No, this is not a display. The body gives an even, single-colour light and contains no image surface, so lettering, a monogram or an animation cannot be shown on it. If you want a monogram in light on the dance floor, that needs a separate device, with the illuminated furniture laying out the space around it. The two sit together perfectly well on the same floor.
