Illuminated business signs, halo-lit and face-lit lettering, portal signs and light boxes, manufactured in Győr and installed in Sisak, 360 kilometres away. This page follows the sequence of decisions in the order a client actually meets them: what the wall can take, what the climate demands, which lettering construction fits which frontage, how large the sign has to be for its street, what documentation an application requires from us, and what the sign will need in its second decade.

Illuminated signage in Sisak — manufacturing, installation, quote

Croatia 360 km from our plant in Győr

Two local facts shape illuminated signage in Sisak more than anything in a catalogue. The first is the river climate: sitting at the meeting of the Kupa and the Sava, the town has damp autumns and long foggy mornings, and moisture that hangs in the air for weeks finds every unsealed joint in an outdoor sign. The second is the state of the buildings. After the December 2020 earthquake a large part of the town's frontages have been repaired, reinforced, re-rendered or rebuilt, which means that the wall you want to fix a sign to may have a very different construction behind the paint than it did five years ago, and an engineer who knows exactly what that construction is.

Establish what the repaired wall can carry

The engineer decides, we supply the numbers

Before anything else, find out how your facade is built now. Reinforcement, injected masonry, new render over a repaired substrate and added insulation all change where a fixing may go and how much it may carry. We provide the figures that decision needs - the mass of the sign, the anchor pattern, the load per point, the wind area - and the structural engineer or the designer responsible for your reconstruction makes the call. Where a wall should not be loaded, the sign moves onto a free-standing post, onto a canopy, or inside the glazing, and all three are perfectly respectable answers rather than consolation prizes.

Build for river fog before you build for rain

Condensation, ventilation and the parts that rot quietly

Rain runs off; fog does not. In a climate with long humid spells the enemy is condensation inside the sign, which corrodes connections and clouds acrylic from behind. We specify sealed outdoor power supplies, drainage at the lowest point of every closed section, cable glands entering downwards, and a ventilated gap behind wall-mounted lettering so that air moves and the back face dries. These details cost very little at manufacture and they are effectively impossible to add later, which is why we raise them at the quotation stage rather than in a service call three winters on.

Pick the lettering construction on evidence

Face-lit, halo-lit and the framed box compared

Face-lit letters push light forward through an acrylic face and read hardest from a moving vehicle - the right choice on an approach road or an industrial estate entrance. Halo-lit letters are dark at the front and light the wall behind them, giving a restrained result that suits a repaired historic frontage near Trg bana Josipa Jelačića or a professional office. A framed light box carries the most information per euro and remains the sensible choice for a pharmacy, a supermarket or a workshop that has to be identified quickly. We quote whichever is genuinely appropriate and we will say when the expensive option adds nothing.

Size the sign for the street it faces

The square, the approach road and the yard gate

A sign on the main square is read by people on foot at ten to twenty metres and does not need to be large; a sign at the entrance to a works or on a road where traffic passes at fifty kilometres an hour is read in under two seconds and needs both height and contrast. Measure the real reading distance and the real approach speed, then let the letter height follow from them. Oversizing a sign is expensive twice over - once at manufacture and again every month in running cost - and undersizing one means paying in full for something that is never actually read.

Prepare the documentation an application needs

What we hand you, and what remains the authority's decision

Signage requirements apply in Sisak as everywhere else, and in a town where a great deal of reconstruction is under public oversight there may be more than one interested party. We supply the technical annex: dimensioned drawings, an elevation showing the sign in position, weights, the fixing detail, the electrical load and the luminance with the proposed switching times. That is the manufacturer's contribution to a submission. The decision itself belongs to the competent municipal and, where relevant, conservation bodies, and we neither predict it nor advise you to put a sign into production before it is made.

Plan the second decade at the first invoice

Dimming, spares and a service interval that is actually kept

Two things determine whether a sign still looks right in ten years. The first is the night regime: a sign running at full output around the clock ages faster, costs more and irritates neighbours, so we set a reduced level with switching times and record them in the handover documents. The second is a maintenance interval that somebody has actually agreed to - an annual clean and inspection, done locally. We supply spare LED components and a spare driver with the sign so that the commonest failures are put right by a local electrician without a 360-kilometre journey being involved at all.
