The sequence below is the one we work through for a fixed screen in Solin. The space first, then the pitch that the closest viewer dictates, then the corrosion question a coastal position adds to every specification, then whether a wheeled poster is simply the better purchase here, then the signal route, and the money last. Our works is in Győr and the road distance is 717 kilometres, which is a two-day operation with a night in between. It is itemised on the quotation rather than absorbed into the price of the equipment.

LED wall in Solin — manufacturing, installation, quote

Solin is not a self-contained centre and it would be misleading to describe it as one. Its roughly 24,862 residents live five kilometres from Split and inside that city's daily orbit: people work there and sleep here, and the shops and services along the main road handle a flow that is partly local and partly passing. On top of that sits a visitor pattern of its own, because the Roman city of Salona is here. Coaches stop, people walk the amphitheatre and Manastirine, look at Gospin otok or the mill at Gašpina mlinica, and are frequently gone by mid-afternoon. A permanently installed screen here therefore faces two audiences with nothing in common: residents who will pass it four hundred times a year, and visitors who will see it once. The second local fact that changes the hardware is the sea. Salt-laden air reaches the low ground along the Jadro and the Vranjic side, and it attacks fixings and cable entries years before anything happens to the display itself.

Measure the opening before choosing a size

Panels of 32 and 16 centimetres decide the rest

Take the clear dimensions of the space the screen will occupy, including anything that projects into it, and give us those numbers first. Every wall is built from a panel 32 centimetres wide by 16 high, always in that orientation, so the finished picture lands on multiples of those two figures. A width of 6.08 metres is nineteen panels; a height of 1.92 metres is twelve rows. The reason to do this before anything else is that the arithmetic constrains the design rather than the other way round. A shopfront with 6.20 metres available gets a 6.08 metre picture and 12 centimetres of trim. Told at the survey, that is a specification. Discovered on the fitting day, it is a dispute, and at this distance it is an expensive one to have.

Take the pitch from your closest viewer, not your furthest

The nearest metre is where the structure shows

Work out where the person standing nearest the screen will be, and specify from there. Inside two metres, at a counter or a reception desk, the useful band is P1.5 to P2.5. Where the front row is five to ten metres back, in a hall or a showroom, P2.5 to P4 is correct. For a surface read from a forecourt, from a car park or from the far side of the through-road, P4 to P8 is enough and costs considerably less. Both mistakes cost money but only one is visible. An unnecessarily fine pitch on a screen nobody approaches is silent waste. A coarse pitch on a surface people stand beside is a screen that resolves into dots for every customer who walks up to it, and no amount of content fixes that afterwards.

Specify for salt first, and rain second

IP65 is the beginning; the fixings are the rest of it

An outdoor unit here is sealed to IP65 and runs at 4,500 to 5,500 nits, and that part is standard. What is not standard is everything around it. In a position within reach of salt aerosol we specify stainless fixings throughout, sleeve and drain every cable entry so that condensate leaves the enclosure rather than collecting in it, and separate dissimilar metals at the bracket so that galvanic corrosion does not do the work of a decade in three years. The maintenance item that follows from this is a rinse. Fresh water over the face and the brackets two or three times a year, more often in a position exposed to the open air, removes deposits before they set. It is a ten-minute task and it is the difference between a screen that is straightforward at year eight and one that has to be taken down.

Start with one poster and grow into a wall later

Five units side by side reach 320 by 192 centimetres

The wheeled LED poster is a standing display that is not attached to anything, and its controllers can be chained so that several units behave as a single image surface rather than as separate screens. That turns it into something a fitted wall can never be, which is a purchase you can make in stages. One unit now for a shop entrance; three next year when the second site opens; five when the format proves itself. The arrangement chosen most often puts five units in a row: five times 64 centimetres gives 320 centimetres of width against 192 centimetres of height, which is close to 16:9 and behaves like a video wall while remaining something two people can wheel out of the way. Brightness follows the version rather than the setting, with the interior builds running at 700 to 800 nits and the outdoor cabinet version reaching 4,500 to 5,000 for a terrace or a forecourt in Dalmatian sun. At 717 kilometres this matters more here than anywhere else we sell: a fitted wall means a mobilisation day, an overnight stay and a two-day visit by a crew, while a poster is unloaded from a vehicle and switched on by your own staff on the day it arrives.

Plan the signal route before you fix the fitting date

Live input, scheduled playlist, or content over Wi-Fi

Decide early how the picture will get to the screen, because it affects the builder's work and not just ours. An HDMI input handles anything live, from a laptop to a camera. A scheduled playlist sits on the controller and is refreshed over the building network, from a USB stick or over Wi-Fi. The wireless option deserves a decision rather than a default. In a masonry building near the archaeological zone, or in a shell where nothing may be chased into the walls, running a data cable is frequently the largest single line in the installation. If the content can travel over Wi-Fi, the only thing that has to reach the position is a mains supply, and that usually already exists.

Budget the 717 kilometre journey as its own row

Two days, an overnight stay, and what that actually buys

There is no way to make this distance small and we do not try. A fitted installation in Solin means the crew travels on one day, works on the next, and stays overnight in between. Travel and subsistence are itemised on the quotation, never folded into the equipment price, so you can see exactly what the geography contributes and weigh it against a supplier based in the Split area. What that distance buys is the reason to accept it: a manufacturer's build rather than a reseller's, spare modules in the same shipment, and a warranty of one or two years held by the company that made the panels. It also makes the spares strategy central rather than optional. We hand over with a module change demonstrated to somebody on your staff, because a fault your own electrician can put right in an hour should never wait for a vehicle from Hungary.
