At a garden birthday or anniversary the question is not whether the furniture fits, but whether the garden is still usable after dark. By eight o'clock the back of the garden falls into shadow and the company drifts automatically into the kitchen, where the lights are on. Illuminated pieces reverse that: the garden gets a few bright points worth standing at, and no extension lead has to be thrown out through the terrace door.
A garden party needs few pieces, but well placed ones: one illuminated table for the food, two or three groups of seating for conversation, and a relax lounger with a low side table by the pool. How much fits into how big a garden
The typical mistake in a private garden is that the furniture gathers around the house while the middle of the lawn stays empty. Yet bright points only work if guests set off towards them: one table at the edge of the terrace, another under the tree and a seating corner at the far end already spread the company out on their own. When sizing it, watch the routes people walk. On an average lawn of 150 square metres, five or six furniture points is the upper limit; above that the garden feels crowded and the light loses its effect, because there is nothing left for it to stand out against. Of the seven available shades it is usually worth keeping one throughout here, because the garden is small and a multicoloured overall picture makes it restless. If the garden is long and narrow, put two points at the far end so guests set off in that direction.
Poolside: where the light works on the water too
The paving beside a pool is the best place for furniture like this, because the water reflects the light and makes even a small garden look bigger. Two relax loungers and a low side table at the water's edge already set the mood on their own, with no string lights and no floodlight from the house wall. Moisture is a fair question here. The body is protected against splashing water, rated IP54, so water dripping off a guest climbing out, the sprinkler and a summer shower do it no harm. What you must not do is put it in the water. This is not floating decoration; thrown into a pool it gets damaged, so plan it for the paving, ideally at least an arm's length from the edge. On wet, slippery paving it is worth putting the larger pieces in place once and not moving them again during the party.
Dinner in the garden, then the switch to conversation
A party at home usually runs in the same space throughout, so the furniture has to play two roles. Dinner needs tables and chairs, with four or five place settings on a round top; if there are more of you, it is better to put two tables together than to look for one big one. After dinner half the company stands up, and conversation forms wherever there is somewhere to sit. This is when it helps that the whole set can be pushed aside by hand: the dining chairs become a circle, the coffee table goes into the middle, and nobody has to pull a cable out from along the wall. That mobility is what most people remember after a party at home. Rearranging the chairs takes no preparation at all, because not one piece is tied to a wall, and their light travels with them.
Few pieces, simple logistics
A private event differs from a big one in that ten to fifteen pieces is rarely exceeded, but getting to the site is harder: a narrow gate, steps, a gravel drive, sometimes a route that leads through the house. It is worth walking the route in advance, because it is the size of the largest items, not their weight, that sets the limit. Plan the charging for the day before the event, in the garage or the utility room. One charge gives 6–8 hours of light depending on the colour, which is plenty for an evening, but if you switch it on in the afternoon and party into the night it will run out towards the end. We go through the details of access and timing in writing after you enquire. Before you hand it back, a wipe-down is all you need to do. If the gate is narrow, measure the widest element, because that is what getting in depends on.
Take a garden party for 30 people on a lawn of 150 square metres. For dinner, count 4–5 place settings per table with tops of around Ø80 cm, so six or seven tables seat everyone; if only half of them sit down at once, three or four will do. Put out two or three tall tables as places to stand, each for 3–4 guests. The conversation zone takes one or two seating groups, 3–5 people each, and two loungers go beside the pool. That comes to around ten to twelve pieces, with a fifth to a third of the lawn furnished — just enough to be able to walk around it.

Do we need an outdoor socket in the garden?
Not while it is in use, because it runs on a built-in battery, so neither an extension lead nor an outdoor socket is needed. Charging is of course necessary, but that can be done inside the house or in the garage, on the day before the event. During the party not a single cable crosses the garden, which is a particular advantage with children around.
Does it stand properly on grass?
On level, well-trodden turf, yes. On freshly watered or rain-soaked ground the heavier pieces sink in; there, look for a firmer patch or put a paving slab underneath. On a paved terrace and on gravel there is no such problem. On a sloping lawn, avoid the tall tables, because those are the first to tip.
Is it safe for a children's party?
The points in its favour: there is no cable to trip over, the surface does not get hot, and the body is impact-resistant polyethylene. The smaller, backless pieces are child-sized as it happens. Supervision is still needed, because the larger elements can be tipped over. You can safely leave the colour choice to the children, since switching it is entertainment in itself.
Can it be used on an enclosed terrace or in a conservatory?
Yes, the same piece goes indoors and out, there is no separate version. The only difference is that under strong lighting the effect is fainter, so it is worth switching off or dimming the room lights when you turn the furniture on. Behind glass, reflection makes the light appear twice over, which is striking in a small space.
What happens to the surface after the barbecue, the grease and the spilt wine?
Nothing permanent. The closed polyethylene surface does not absorb liquid, so no stain is left behind and there is no upholstery to have cleaned. A damp cloth and a neutral cleaner are enough; we take care of the rest when it comes back. That way the next customer gets it in the same state you did.
