An illuminated LED sign is a small display with a single duty: to be legible, at the right size, from the place where your customer actually stands. We build sign faces on the same landscape module used for large walls, which fixes the proportions before the artwork is drawn. The city lies 408 road kilometres from our production site in Győr, so the survey, the manufacture and the fitting are planned as one sequence with as few journeys as possible.

Illuminated signage in Ljubljana — manufacturing, installation, quote

For illuminated signage the capital divides neatly in two. Inside the old core - Čopova ulica, the frontages around Prešeren Square, the lanes beneath Ljubljana Castle - shopfronts are small, close to the pedestrian and subject to a protective view of the townscape. Outside it, along the arterial roads and across the retail estates of BTC City, the same product is read from a car at forty kilometres an hour and has to be several times larger to do the same work. A sign specified for one of these Ljubljanas is simply wrong in the other.

Sign faces on a fixed tile

Proportions the grid allows

A sign face is assembled from the same landscape tile - 32 centimetres of width for every 16 of height - which means the fascia dimensions are decided by the tile count rather than by the shopfitter's drawing. A band above a doorway on Miklošičeva cesta might come out as eight tiles by two, giving 256 by 32 centimetres. Where the existing fascia is a stubborn size, the difference is absorbed by the surround. We prepare the elevation with the grid drawn onto it, so the client sees the tile lines before the order is confirmed.

Legibility from the pavement

Pitch against the reading position

On a narrow pedestrian street the customer is two or three metres away and reads the sign at an angle, which puts the specification in the P1.5 to P2.5 range. A sign on an arterial approach, seen from a moving vehicle, performs perfectly well at P4 to P8 and would be a waste of money any finer. Between those cases - a forecourt, a large car park, a first-floor frontage - P2.5 to P4 is the usual answer. We measure from the point where a passer-by first needs to read the sign, not from the kerb directly in front of it.

Night operation and daylight competition

IP65 housing, scheduled dimming

A facade sign is an outdoor product: sealed to IP65 and capable of 4500 to 5500 nits so that it holds up against midday sun on a south-facing frontage. That output is not meant to run after dark. The controller reduces brightness on a timetable, which keeps the sign comfortable for residents above the shop and trims the electricity bill at the same time. Setting the evening level is part of the handover, and it can be changed afterwards without a visit.

Changing what the sign shows

Scheduled items and live input

Prices, opening hours, a seasonal message: the sign holds a list of items and runs them on a timetable loaded over the network or from a USB stick. Because the controller is reachable over Wi-Fi, an update can be made from the shop's own laptop, and no data cable has to run from the office to the fascia. An HDMI input is available where the sign has to mirror a live source, though for a shopfront that is rarely necessary.

Survey and fitting in one sequence

Working at 408 kilometres

The distance from Győr rules out casual visits, so we combine as much as possible: one appointment records the fascia condition, the fixing substrate, the cable route and the nearest supply point, and the fitting follows as a separate trip with an overnight stay. Travel and subsistence are itemised in the offer for foreign addresses. They are not hidden inside a square-metre price, and they do not move after the survey unless the scope moves with them.

Documents, warranty and reserve tiles

What we hand over

Signs carry a one-year or two-year warranty as agreed, and reserve tiles are included in the delivery so that a single dark module can be exchanged locally. Slovenian rules govern what may be placed on a building exterior, and they are applied more firmly in the protected centre than on a retail park. The application is made by the owner or the tenant; from us you receive the technical annexes - elevation drawing, weight, fixing detail, power consumption and luminance figures - to attach to it.
