Programmable LED text displays for businesses in the city: travel and excursion offices, rent-a-car desks, pharmacies, bakeries and service counters. Below we cover what belongs on a board, how large the characters have to be, how the text is updated during a busy season, and what a coastal location adds to the specification.
LED scrolling sign in Split — manufacturing, installation, quote
In summer Split is a city of people carrying luggage and reading as they walk. Around the ferry port, along the promenade and in the streets leading up from the water, the useful message is almost always short and perishable: a departure time, today's price, a language spoken, a queue number. That is exactly what a scrolling text board does well and a printed board does badly. In winter the same shop uses the device for opening hours and staff notices, and it earns its keep in a quieter, less visible way.
Which businesses here actually benefit?
Short-lived information beside a busy footway
Excursion and ticket sellers near the ferry port, car and scooter rental desks along the Riva promenade, pharmacies posting duty rotas, bakeries and fast counters around Bačvice listing what is available now, and service points calling numbers: every one of them changes its message daily or hourly. A restaurant with a fixed menu does not need one. The test is simple, namely whether somebody in the business regularly prints and tapes a new sheet into the window.
Can a text board be read in Dalmatian sunlight?
Output, contrast and orientation
Behind glass in a shaded lane inside Diocletian's Palace a modest brightness is plenty. On a facade in full afternoon sun the board needs to run in the same 4,500 to 5,500 nit band as an outdoor screen, and even then the position matters: a face angled slightly away from the direct sun is dramatically more legible than one square to it. Deep red or amber single-colour boards hold their contrast in bright light better than most full-colour content manages.
How is the message changed during the season?
Wi-Fi, scheduling and who does it
Content is written on a phone or a laptop and sent to the controller over Wi-Fi, so no cable has to be pulled to the sign and staff can update it from behind the counter. Messages carry start and end times, which is how a summer schedule is loaded once and left to run: morning offers before ten, an afternoon text until six, opening hours overnight. Where no wireless network exists, a USB stick does the same job.
What protects the unit from salt and spray?
Sealing, glands and materials
An externally mounted board on this coast is built like an outdoor screen: an IP65 enclosure, sealed cable glands, stainless fixings and a housing finish chosen for chloride exposure. Anything within sight of the water gets particular attention at the cable entry, since that is where moisture usually finds a way in. A unit fitted inside the window avoids all of this and is the cheaper answer wherever the glass line sits close to the pavement.
Which mounting position works in a narrow street?
Projection, height and sightlines
In the lanes of the centre a board flat against the facade is only read once someone stands directly in front of it. A perpendicular, double-sided unit is read from both ends of the street, as on the shopping run along Marmontova, but it projects over the pavement and that projection is regulated. Character height follows the distance, roughly three to four metres of readable range for each centimetre of letter height, and since the modules are 16 centimetres tall, layouts are planned as one or two lines from the outset.
How is delivery handled over 719 kilometres?
Grouped runs and a short installation
Text boards are small enough to travel with other deliveries to Dalmatia, which is how the transport share stays sensible over that distance. Fitting a window unit takes an hour or two; an external unit takes half a day once power is available at the position. Before we leave, a member of your staff composes and publishes a message under supervision, and the delivery includes reserve modules along with the one or two year warranty.
